League average is typically about 1 goal per 6 minutes of 5 on 3 time.

Last year two teams broke the 1 goal per 4 minute mark which would imply a 50% success rate if we were using PP% as our measurement (5 on 3's are of a non-uniform length so PP success percentage is a kinda dumb way to look at it). The offensive dynamos Florida and Columbus. This should show a more general point, there are too few 5 on 3's to effectively analyse them statistically at the team level.

Just knowing the rule of thumb that a 5 on 3 scores around at around double rate of a 5 on 4 should work for most situations.

Who's to say the Habs didn't try to land him? He can say what he wants, all sorts of players talk like they want to come here but when it comes down to it they don't arrive.

It doesn't matter anyways. Talbot doesn't make this team that much better.

Are you guys aware that Talbot was UFA 2 off-seasons ago? Prust and Armstrong are irrelevant to the discussion. But yes I agree we should've signed him, but a 5 years contract for this type of player is a big risk.

I love Talbot but no matter what flattery he said he would have cost more for us. The Flyers were considered a contender when he signed there.

Another thing to blame Gauthier for sure, but this is hardly something to lose sleep over.

D'Agostini, Palushaj, Obyrne. Two traded for the other. Not even mad. Nobody I would insert into our lineup.

Props to Halak though, he's having a good first game back.

Passion is great until you realize year after year you are squandering great offensive talent with a joke of a defense. As great as that playoff series was last year, both teams were supposed to be contenders, so yeah, their fans are disappointed no matter how much passion they got for a few games that lead to nothing. Not every game is going to be a rival series.

My fantasy team approves.

And I'm sure those Blues fans are crying about how "boring" their team is.

Carter! 3-1 Kings. Awful goal allowed by Joey Mac.

I dont have a proof but I remember before he signed with philly, he said that montreal isn't one of the teams he wanted to play for. Kinda strange he signed with a rival instead..

Man, the reffing is so inconsistent (obvious), particularly in the stl-col game where they're letting them play, but it makes you cringe thinking about those chintzy tripping or hooking calls where it's more the player losing balance or screwing up themselves, rather than the penalized player. I guess this is actually how games should be called although Stl has really been rushing Varlamov. Should have been called at least once.

Kings win it 3-1. Flames booed off the ice.

Another step closer towards a very early 2nd rounder.

With a 1.750 million $ cap hit, nothing is a big risk. Worst case scenario is a minor cap hit, but the most likely scenario is that we get a good role player for 5 years.

Flames are done, the hole they have dug is too deep. That 2nd round pick will be between 30 and 44.

Being from Edmonton I am kinda hoping it is closer to 44, I don't need the flames actually getting someone like Lindholm.

Many would rather have Cammalleri. You know, he's a sure thing and got skillz.

Because he's a dime a dozen player. Just a year later we signed our own version of Talbot in Prust, who at least can fight.

Our current roster + Cammalleri?? Euh, not sure what would really be bad, especially going into the POs where he excelled for us.

Prust is better in this role. Similar pts/game (0.23 for Prust vs 0.3 for Talbot) but more PIMs (fights in that case).

The hilarious thing about Calgary is that it really isn't so much the skaters, they're doing alright even if their center depth is ghastly. Its that Kippersoff had a crummy start then got injured resulting in terrible goaltending that they are down in the bottom.

They've been trying so long because they've had Kipper and Iggy that they've got to the point we're they were still trying but those two had stopped being elite players in their own right anymore. Iginla is just a great goal scorer rather than great all round player and Kippersoff really isn't in the games elite in net either.
