Bouwmeester expected to net the Flames a "hefty" return

I don't know how many of you caught this, but on tonight's Kings/Flames broadcast on TSN, Gord Miller mentioned that if the Flames were to put Jay Bouwmeester on the trading block, he would net the Flames a "substantial" return, especially as we get closer to the trade deadline.

Bouwmeester's having his best season as a Flame. He's still relatively young, only has 1 year remaining on his contract, and eats up minutes like crazy! The demand for puck-moving defencemen is also sky high.

Expect the Flames to get back at least one (maybe two) 1st round draft picks, a blue chip prospect, plus a young roster player! And then wait till the rest of the guys (Iginla, Kiprusoff, Tanguay, Cammalleri, etc.) get put on the block!

My mouth is already starting to water.

... But are the Flames even remotely interested in moving him or is this just pure fan conjecture?

IF the Flames decide to move him. Big "if."

Doubt any team will want to give their 1st for Bouwmeester. This guy is soft.

Yeah, Jay Bouwmeester is not going to net you one or two first rounders, a blue chip prospect, and a young roster player. You can stop drooling.

A team would be silly too pay that much for Bouwmeester.

You're not getting a 25 minute, smooth skating, puck-moving 1st pairing defenceman for a "2nd."

I'm asking for Bouwmeester, not Chris Letang.

Two first round picks and a blue chip? Yea....

I saw how much Kovalchuck and the likes got... He's not going to haul in Kessel level value (we know how that deal went).

I see a team like Detroit offering Filppula, Kindl and Frk.

They wouldn't be, they'd be getting him for a forward, a defenseman, and a 2nd.

Wouldn't offer more than 1 st for him. Mental to think he would garner such a return like you stated in the OP

Sorry, Gord Miller forget to mention the OR in "substantial": 1st round draft pick OR a blue chip prospect OR a young roster player!

Thank you. We're not talking about lottery picks here. Mid-to-late 1st round draft picks + a top-6 prospect.

Bouwmeester would not return anywhere near two first round picks ++. Dont fool yourself.

He would net a quality return but nothing remotely close to what the OP posted.

Are we talking about Bouwmeester or Erik Karlsson?

And unless it has changed recently, the Flames owners didn't seem interested in rebuilding and therefore I doubt they would trade Bouwmeester for picks and/or youngsters.

Well isn't this nice. A guy starts a "speculation" topic, expecting and demanding insane overpayment for a player and then looks down his nose going "no" when the offers come.

Reminds me of the "Value of: 1st overall (Yakupov)" -threads here before the draft where the Oilers fans would scuff at all the very reasonable offers.

*looks at his numbers again... looks at his contract again...*

Um... not worth 2 firsts, a top roster player and a top prospect...

Not even close.

1st round pick and a roster player? Sure.

1st round pick and a good prospect? Sure thing.

1st round pick and a couple decent prospects? Ya I could see it...

But definitely not what op listed.
