I think the NHL believed this was somewhere between reckless abandon for player safety or intention to hit Hossa but no intention to hit him in the head and does so indadvertedly.
I guess that's where I disagree with the NHL. I don't see how it's possible that Hansen didn't mean to do it.

After watching it again, Hansen opens his hand to catch the puck, then realizes he wont get it, and then you see his hand close and his elbow starts coming in to the back of Hossas head.

If you say it isn't intentional, you're blind and dumb.
I get that the Keith elbow was worse. I was one of the Hawk fans that felt Keith got off lucky with only a 5-game suspension.. but I don't see much difference between the Keith elbow and Hansen Elbow. I don't know how anyone can watch that video and not feel that Hansen deserved at least 3 games.

Canucks will never win with the current group that they have and the coach that abides by this kind of play. Disgusted.
Sadly dirty teams can win the cup.

but anyways I came hear to see if there was any update on Hossa. Hope he's okay.

The suspension is very fair in this case. I had thought 1-3 games, so it was basically the low end of that. I think it is clear that Hansen realized he couldn't get the puck, so he went after Hossa instead.

What I can't say, is that he intentionally tried to hurt him. I think he wanted to carelessly disrupt Hossa from getting the puck, so the Canucks could retain control. A poor decision, a reckless play and deserving of a suspension.

I just hope Hoss is okay. That is my biggest worry. Hawks need him healthy.

Hopefully tomorrow we will hear how Hossa is doing. I am assuming the silence was until the hearing was held or something.

the silence is because there was no practice today.. and Q is not required to talk to the media unless practice was held.

I love Hossa but whenever he gets injured he's usually out a couple weeks. We have seen it year after year. I'd say minimum two weeks here, he wasn't laying face down on the ice for a couple of minutes for nothing plus being helped off and to the locker room.

I don't see how anyone can say it wasn't intentional, but I'm fine with a one game suspension. We've all seen much worse

A few more games would have been nice just to see the reaction from all the Canucks fans

I can agree with this point of view. Although many, including the media, think suspension is too stiff for trying to disrupt another player without intention to injure, considering precedent this year thus far.
Shanahan basically assumes that halfway up on a "jumpball" the player changes his mind. I hope Hossa is okay for competition's sake.

I think a lot of us overreact because its Hossa, and because it's the Cannots.

If it were a DAL player that did the same thing to Frolik, don't think we would be as upset. But it was still a cheap shot, and not accidental.

Not completely the Canucks should be contenders as long as Kessler & the twins are together.

This all occured within less than a year. Hell, Bertuzzi got off with a relative slap on the wrist for nearly maiming a guy. Sad as it is to say, the league seems to have been intimidated by the incessant *****ing that has come out of Vancouver management since the days of Burke and Crawford, and they're scared to come down on them. It's bizarre to say the least.
No way man. Keith's hit was blatant and he deserved that 5 games it was malicious. The hit to Hossa --Hansen was trying to make contact it was careless. It wasn't blatant. Hansen wanted to draw contact knew the hit would land in the shoulders or head. He had a 50/50 shot of hitting Hossa in the shoulders or head. Intent on that play was completely different and not in the same category as Keith's.

Good news from Slovakia. Hossa´s father says, that it is not a concussion, Hossa will undergo another medical test that will show wheter he will play the next game.

Hossa's mother said that Marian is actually 100% healthy and is break-dancing on his head and smashing watermelons with his forehead to prove that he's fine. His mother also said Marian has the strongest skull in Czechoslovakia.
