His play isn't good right now. The fact that he has 11 in 15 shows, to me at least, that when he picks up his play he's going to go off.
I'm not saying they are good or bad, just a stat I found. To me he is getting points by association. Look back at the beginning of the season. He scored quite a few points playing Gaborik and Nash. Both of those guys started off really well. Gaborik had a 3 goal game. Nash was ALL over the place.

I agree and disagree. I think some of his points are points by association, but I think he's been an important part of more scoring plays than people here are willing to admit.

What's the possibility of him carrying a nagging injury like Gaborik did during the playoffs or Kreider at the start of the season?

Very slim.

Where would it be from? Started the season poorly. Wasn't in camp. Didn't play during the lockout.......

Maybe those lockout vacations wore him out.

Richards is a smart player who isn't playing a smart game right now. To me it looks like Richards is playing a similar style of play from last year, but is making more mistakes & paying for them.

I'm Not sure if it's age or fear of getting another concussion but he just doesn't seem involved in the play.

When a few of us floated the idea of him being bought out 6 weeks ago we were laughed off the board. Now it seems like a reasonable consideration.

Even if Richards did improve his play this season, looking ahead to next season & with his age & cap hit a buy out has to be considered. Richards isn't going to age like so many of those fine wines he enjoy's, he will just get older, slower more prone to injury & less productive.

I'm really not worried about Richards.

He'll pick it up. You don't go from our best forward in the playoffs to over-the-hill in one summer.

I will not be advocating buying out Richards, but the logic here doesn't make sense. A UFA isn't going to be TOO upset about him being bought out, since it's a way to cash in on a huge "retirement" contract and still sign a new one with a new team. I sincerely doubt that would deter any future signings.

Don't perform to your contract? Cash in early on it. How is that a bad thing?

The internet is truly a marvel. What a great video. I laughed really hard.

Pike is a great market. A lot of fun. Seattle is pretty much a mecca for any one who enjoys food. About a mile away from The Pike market near Pioneer Square is Salumi owned by Armandino Batali. Some of the best bliss found between two slices of bread on the planet.

Got it.

Fedotenko, Prust, Anisimov and Dubs also all helped to varying degrees. Brad helped more than any of those guys but the amount that he helped isn't nearly as high as it should be based on the player he was before he came to us. Now this year he is playing himself out of a contract. If he plays like this the rest of the year it's easy and probably correct to shed a contract like that. Were he on a reasonable deal with only 3 years left then you keep him but geez what do we have him SIX more years. Based on what usually happens to players that do exactly what Brad is doing and decline at exactly the same age it would be dangerous to keep him.

If you feel this spurt of bad play will be a thing of the past and that he will be what he was last year for the next 3 or 4 years then yea you keep him. Clearly you feel that way and there's nothing wrong with that he was a phenomenal player and this is a lockout shortened weird season. But the other guy and everyone thinking about buying him out is 100% justified for debating the merits of a buyout. You are being very ignorant and quite frankly insulting by implying that talk of a buyout is crazy based on the reasons you gave when you look at his age and his actual play for the Rangers overall not just from march to the Game 5 against washington.

Yeah. If I'm in Getzlaf's shoes, I'm looking at M.Richards signing 9 years contract and being bought out after 2 seasons and thinking to myself "This is the organization I should sign my new contract with".

I'm also thinking, "Wade Redden, Brad Richards, 1+1=2, No more amnesty buyouts..."

I doubt that. And I doubt management would even consider BO option if statistically MR comes to somewhat respectful numbers. On the other hand, I'm all for you, guys, buying out MR. He is better than Bozak any day of the week. We can probably sign him for league minimum after compliance BO and see if he would like to stick it to his old team and play for pride. I heard MR was/is gym-nut?

He has to go. He is too slow, and looks like he has NO desire. Forget buying him out... try to trade him RIGHT NOW for a pick or two, maybe even a prospect. We are obviously not a cup contender this year with this team and this coach. We need a big change. No more Richards and Gabby. Nash is the future of this team for the next 5+ years. We have a stellar defense and goaltender. Sign young players similar to Hagelin who WANT to play and you WANT to try.

There is no sign indicating he will be back to his old self. Now, we have suffer for 2 years of this BS until he can be bought out or Slat pulls Gomez-esque trade.

Could we get Kessel for Richards? What other bad contracts are out there? I'm sick of him
