Every couple of months this thread pops up, like clockwork. Gaborik is what he is. He scores in bunches. I don't understand why his cold streaks or seemingly disinterested play come as a shock to anyone.

Pretty much.

I think he could step up a bit more too, but I'm not expecting him to "take over games". I don't know where that fallacy was created but it seems like a lot of people are awaiting for him to do such a thing. Something he simply.....well, doesn't do.

Because he has played better than this before and not put up points? His offense will show up, most likely in bunches, no one is claiming he's dried up. He isn't playing to his potential in other facets of the game and giving him a pass because he has always been lazy is pretty weak.

it's not shock, it's disgust. I like the guy, and i don't expect him to score every game, but this is his worst start since he's been here, despite the goals he's scored. He doesn't skate anymore? If he's not going to at least be an offensive threat, what's the point?

Certainly not giving him a pass but one thing worth noting is that off-season shoulder surgery. While you can get back on the ice after 4-6 months, it usually takes a full 12 months to get back to normalcy. Limited strength or range of motion WILL affect that shot, which is Gaborik's bread and butter.

When has Gabby ever done anything, on any team, that he isn't doing now?

He's not gonna win puck battles.

He's not gonna body people off the puck.

He IS, as stated numerous times above, a streaky scorer.

At least he backchecks for us now... he didn't do a whole heck of a lot of that for Minn.

All I want from Gaborik is to be a factor game in game out (reasonably)

not every teams top end players will be a factor every game, but more often than not they are.

Points aside, he's not being a presence on the ice and that to me is probelmatic.

That's why I'm not concerned about his offense, but he had shoulder surgery... His legs should still work.

VERY good point. im not doing all the research on his timeline, but he didnt get his "glass man" reputation for nothing. hes had injuries to ares of his body that are MAJOR parts of his game. hip/grioin (speed/skating) and shoulder (shot). i wonder if the timeline of his recovery (12 months back to normalcy despite being cleared to play in 6) has anything to do with his on again/off again seasons. im sure it does...

I would sooner have Kessel than Gabby...younger and cheaper and actually does get into the dirty areas for goals...and his are starting to go in . Plus I think Kessel is more of a threat on the PP .

I think under a new coach and system we get improved play out of all our top 6 forwards . I'd fire the coach and then give Gabby and crew a chance to redeem themselves...the Flyers win with offense versus the Penguins...why can't we ???

"Sneaky".

He's lazy. Disengaged. Disinterested. He's shown up for two games this season. 2g-2a in the rest of the 14 games.

7.5 million.

Then you have a player like Hagelin, who never stops, scored 10 points in his last 8 games, plays in all situations.

875k.
Exactly what I was trying to say, just more to the point. There's a difference between beind sneaky and just plain lazy, and he's lazy and that exactly why he's so streaky because some games he's putting in the effort(2 games this year) and other games he's not (the rest)

Also he should know he's a streaky scorer, and when he's not getting golden oppurtunities like breakaways, great shooting chances, and open ice to skate through he should be putting more effort in rather then just standing around like he has been the last 10 games, he was literally just standing there when he scored against the isles but got lucky.

Because this is New York and we want a team entirely of Milan Lucic, so when all of us know that Gaborik isnt a tough player, even despite that, we ***** and moan and still expect it.

Kinda like buying a Ferrari and *****ing that it doesnt drive like a Hummer.

Four of his 7 goals and 7 of his 11pts are against TOR and NYI again... He has points in 5 of 15 games.

Toronto is in 6th place, playing much better this year and I fully expect them to make the playoffs. Its not exactly an insignificance if youre suggesting it is.

If an opposing player gets within 10 feet of him he coughs up the puck. 7.5 million, really?

I guess its a really good thing that he is just lucky enough to pot 40 goals a season with regularity. Defenders must ignore him often.

I dont get it.

I guess we should just stick to appreciating him more than everyone else.

Compliance buy out for Richards, sign Getzlaf. Trade Gaborik and whatever else is needed for Perry.

He's on pace for, I think, 40 goals if this were a full season. He's fine. He'll be fine.

I wish he would spread his goals out more, but as long as he continues to put up 30-40 and score big GWG, I can't be mad at him. Especially when Richards is dog poo.

Gobrik pls

They started clicking after we played them. They were not very good in that game. It's not the best argument but it's worth noting that the majority of his points came against two teams that were below average at the time. If you'd rather look at it this way he got most his points in two games and has 4 PTS in the other 14 games.

Maybe he hasn't yet figured out that in this shortened season, the time between his "streaks" needs to be shortened up. He's been way too easy to defend lately, but I say that about many of our players of late. These guys are in a serious mind-funk.
