1992-1993 was an anomaly year in the NHL. The stats for players seemed to inflate for that particular year, probably due to the fact that there were new expansion teams that teams could feast on. Selanne had 76 goals, 132 points that year and he never hit that point again. Davydov's 28 goals, 49 points didn't really mean as much as it would mean today.
Side question: Was Davydov the first guy that came off the bench during the punch up in Piestany?
I remember when his team (Soviet Wings?) came to Winnipeg in 1990. I was at a friend's sports clothing store when Davydov came in with some of his teammates. He sold me a Fetisov jersey for $40. I think it was just a practice jersey. Tall and lanky guy. On the ice he looked like he had potential to be a solid player for years.
