Good thing he's not involved in drafting then

Thanks for clarifying, I didn't see pro distinction. In that case I do really like the move. Burke knows how to evaluate NHL talent and having an experienced mind like his giving insight can never be a bad thing.

But seriously, I like this move for the Ducks, we have quite a solid management team in place already, adding Burke can only be a good thing. As long as he doesn't encourage BM to trade a top 6 player for Doug Weight
Or let Fasth go on waivers.

Haha thanks, I didn't have those up on my computer yet. Great PR move, pretty soon the Ducks will get more media than the Kings again and be the face of Hockey in California.

Burke, Niedermayer, Roloson, Marchant all on staff. Wow.

I think this is a perfect position for him. I'm sure Dirk approves.

It's weird I haven't thought of this. I think Kevin Lowe probably would not be with us today had Burke never left and the situation around a certain ex-prospect had unfolded the same way...

Couple years and you can add Teemu there, I hope.

Well, now we can find out if they tampered with Schultz I guess. Although clearly this is just making sure Nonis has another job ready for him when he gets fired again

This is an excellent move, and may indicate that they're going to be aggressive building the team, or may indicate Perry is gone and they want the best return possible.

You don't have to hope. He will. They just can't say that publicly.

Or that we've secured someone that guarantees that those two stay.

I'm sure that he'll be moving on when a GM spot opens up somewhere else. This gives him a place to stay relevant, which wasn't going to happen if he stayed with MLSE.

Burke's a pro scout.

Wasn't he close with Perry?

Every little bit helps...

Awesome. Weird but awesome. I thought he wanted a GM position? And why Anaheim? Does that mean more trades to come with Toronto?

He's an advisor for trades, not a shot caller.

He probably still wants that position. But he might as well be in a place where he's wanted while waiting for it, being around people he respects and is respected by.

I don't think that's physically possible.

Yeah I know. But one could argue he will whisper a few things in Murray's mind.

What do you mean? It'll be really public when he's still leading the team in points.

Teams cannot offer enticements like future jobs to players. Those things are forbidden. I'm sure promises like that are made in private, or at least suggested, but you can get in deep **** for making those promises in public.

Why Anaheim? Because there's a great deal of mutual respect between Anaheim's front office and Brian Burke. There was no bitterness between Burke and the Ducks when he left for Toronto - The organization knew how much that position meant to Burke, they didn't want to see him go, but at the same time were happy for him for landing his dream job. I'm sure Burke appreciated how the Ducks organization handled the process, and maybe him taking this position is a result of that.

Simply put, it's great to have Burke back with the Ducks, and it's a good position to have him in. He's a great judge of talent and knows what it takes to build a successful hockey team. Having a guy like Burke to, at the very least, just consult with on players and trades will prove to be very valuable. Murray and Burke have two different approaches to building a team but they are the same in that they are very passionate about winning. They've already proven to be a great duo. Burke will find himself in a bigger role in the future, hopefully in Anaheim, but if it's with another team then so be it.

Welcome back Burkie.
