The biggest problem I had was a the obstruction on both of Vancouvers goal.

#1) Vanouver player intentionally takes our man shawdowing Malik (who had the puck). Hence, Malik is wide open for the shot from the point.

#2) Bertuzzi grabs Timonen by the head at takes him out of the play.

BTW, Waveburner, this would be the second time I've complained about officiating this year. The first would be against Dallas at the begining of the year.

Congrats to murray and his 2nd SHG this year!!! Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. We outplayed the 'nucks in about every department tonite, but just weren't able to pull the win (sound familiar?). I also agree that the officiating was utter crap. Here's to the refs screwing us in 2 games against vancouver this season

I don't know if anyone else agrees, but IMO hamhuis looked outstanding tonite. He has a bright future.
My thoughts exactly. Hamhuis looked really great all night. Eaton did a good job on Bertuzzi all night, too. Nice goal by Murray, great pass by Hall through the legs of the Canuck player.

Wow, Vancouver fans saying how we should shut up and that every time a Canuck player touches us we call for a penalty. That’s funny. I didn’t know it wasn’t a penalty to hook players down from behind when they have the puck (at least 3; Legwand, Timonen, Murray), or to pull and spin them down because you don’t have a stick and are in a desperate situation (you know, where Erat (or some Predator) was hauled down and because the Vancouver guy skated over him and fell Zids got called for tripping), or that it wasn’t a penalty when you consistently drag players down by the heads (I saw Bertuzzi doing that at least 3 times). Some, I can see letting go, like the holding along the boards where Nashville players had an arm tied up behind their backs and could barely hold their sticks. Because honestly those don’t always get called because they are hard to really see those. But it’s ****ing ******** to not call those obvious penalties. I don’t care who you think you are or who you think your team is, there is no excuse for not calling some of those. And before you Vancouver fans start *****ing at us that we don’t know anything because we’re from Nashville and that you know all because you‘re from Canada, yes we know there was stuff missed on Nashville too, but not nearly to the extent of what was missed on Vancouver (oops, too late).

I don't want to hear anymore from Nucks fans about grabbing, they held and rode all night long.
Yep. I distinctly remember on a Predator PP, Martin Erat skating from the red line and into the Vancouver zone with a stick firmly attatched to his stomach that had Trevor Linden on the end of the stick catching a free ride. They did just as much as they complain about.

Thankfully Hartnell only has a sprained ankle (yes MonsterBertuzzi we already knew, that was established about 10 posts before yours, but thanks anyways). He came out and skated a bit at the end of the second period but went right back on the bench. Trotz said they told him if he felt any twinges to just not go back out. Hopefully he’ll be ok by Thursday, or Saturday.

Now I just have one thing to say to those dumb Predators: When it’s just you and the goalie and you have the puck, SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK!!!!! My God, do you know how many goals we may have been able to score if Zidlicky or Legwand had actually taken a shot instead of passing, or if we shot on the net and not into the legs of a defender standing 2 feet from our players when we could see it wasn’t going to go anywhere but back out of the zone.

Whatever. Got 1 point. Outplayed them most all night. Their goalie saved their ass tonight. He made some great saves. On to Montreal.

Any fan at any time, can complain about officiating if they wanted to. Its inconsistent and terrible all the time. Us Nashville fans just have to do without the star calls/non-calls that most other teams benefit from.

Look at my original example.

Cloutier falls down and Orszagh gets a goaltender interference call WT?!?!?

On the ensuing PP, Bertuzzi is called for tripping after doing nothing WT?!?!?

This is a perfect example of evening up the penalties, and frankly it was ridiculous. Why should NHL fans have to put up with the garbage that is NHL officiating. Ratings may be down due to lack of scoring, but if you are a fan, its easy to be put off by the pathetic calls/non-calls that are made each and every game, regardless of the team. Everyone says get "used to it" , but why should we??? Fans have every right to complain when a piss-poor job is done. Its like making a pizza with out the toppings......its a bad product and takes away from the game.

*climbs off soap-box*

Anyways, it was a mighty fine game. Wish we could have nabbed two points, but at least we got a point out of the whole ordeal
Inconsistent officiating has been part of hockey, and sports in general, for over a century. Why worry about it? Just deal with the hand you are dealt. I get sick of this on the 'Nuck board as well. Blaming the refs is just a cop-out (not meaning you).

I assume you’re talking to me then. But notice I never blamed the officiating for the loss. I merely pointed out how much was missed and that there was no excuse for not calling some of those penalties. Sure some might not have been called, but to miss them all is ridiculous.

What I did blame our loss on was the fact that when we had obvious shots, we chose to pass and lose a great scoring chance (Zidlicky and Legwand in particular) or that we shot when there was nothing to shoot at instead of passing and ended up sending the puck back out of our own zone. And that Cloutier stole the game for Vancouver with some brilliant saves that if he doesn‘t make, Nashville wins. I didn’t cop out and blame the officiating for the loss.

I worry about the officiating because the refs let too much go. If players realize they aren’t going to get called for something then they will continue to do it and it could eventually go too far and end up with someone getting seriously hurt. And it’s ridiculous that some officials feel that just because of where a team is in the standings, that that should dictate what calls are or aren’t made against them or for them.

I was going to say how that is jsut a part of the game and would NEVER be called, but I already know the response. What Bertuzzi did was fine. Timmonen wasn't going to get to Mo anyways, or else he would've left Bertuzzi all alone in front of the net.

**** happens. Unfortunately, thanks to this 2 ref system, it seems as though refs are being placed in the league unprepared. And honestly, it effects reffing everywhere else too. The CHL is hurting now because the top officials are being pulled out.

Regardless it was a good game. Sometimes the "elite" teams just find ways to win and get the bounces. Nashville is a freakshly hard working team, and that in itself is obviously something to be proud of. But you have to know by now that the reffing is becoming atrocious. It goes both ways...yes the Canucks had lots of breaks go there way, but so did Nashville. In the end, almost 100% of the time, the players, not the officials decide the game.

And now for some good news:

I just want to point out what great jobs DAN HAMHUIS and MARK EATON did. I thought they played great. Hammy made some great moves to knock the puck off a few guys sticks all night. And Eaton did a great job keeping Bertuzzi in check most of the night.

And Martin Erat did a great job again. Really the team as a whole played well, we just, once again, couldn’t get the pucks to go into the net. But I just wanted to say how much those 2 really impressed me against Vancouver.

Inconsistent officiating does not have to be a part of hockey, though. Your right. I shouldn't worry about it, and rarely do I. Still, it is a sad state that the NHL officiating dwells in. It takes away from the game, more than anything. I guess if you like contreversy, then NHL officiating is for you, as for me, I like to see the game called as fair and legal as possible. Judgement calls are total BS. If it is a hook.......then it is a hook. If a star player takes down a scrub, it is still a penalty. Favoritism should not play a part in the handing out of punishments (penalties).

I hope that clarifies my stance a little bit.

Agreed...Eaton and Hammy really stepped it up!!! I also agree with a previous post that legwand and zman (especially zman) need to shoot sometimes instead of trying to set everyone up. Don't get me wrong, zman played well but there were a few shots that he should have put on goal that he passed instead. I'm sure, however, that trotz notcies these things and they *should* be worked on. Either way, we played a damn good game.

What's up with the poor attendance?!? Geez....the paper says 9,754 were in attendance. Before murray scored his SHG, the place was so dead it made me sick. It's a shame our team can't even come home and atleast put 12,000-15,000 in the GEC!

Now...for the officiating. It was bad both ways. It's been bad alll season. But, see, when the reffing is bad and we lose then obviously we got screwed

Anyway, hope we can down montreal on thursday!

The problem is not just inconsistent reffing. The problem is oftentimes not calling the penalties that occurs. Despite what BCF says, the Preds don't usually clutch and grab near as much as other teams. We have smooth skating Dmen who just don't do it (Allison is the exception). But we have super fast forwards that get held all the time. When the refs swallow the whistle, it does not benefit the Preds.

My point is simply this: human beings (a.k.a referees) make mistakes. Sometimes they don't see things. Sometimes they see something from a completely different angle. EVERY call they make, EVERY single one, is a judgement call. How else can you do it? You can't implement some sort of EA system where a computer automatically decides if a penalty occured or not.

This has also been happening, as I stated, since the inception of sports (and of course hockey). What miracle cure do you have for this? Seriously. Stating "They should just call it by the book" is just taking a really complex situation and trying to solve it in 2 seconds. Doesn't work like that.
