It looks like Luo sidestepped the rule book last year in order to keep his team together, but Daly has lowered the boom on him for this year. Both The Mogilny and Malakov contracts are total CAP hits for this year. Thats why the Devils have a 38mil Cap this year for players.
Hmm, so they are screwed it would seem. I might have to review my rankings then. Do you guys think Mogilny and Malakhov will play this year then? I doubt anyone in the league wants these guys at 3.5 and 3.6 million respectively. Is Mogilny going to play in Albany for $3.5 million? Ouch.

I actually meant $3 million each. I thought Mogilny was 3.5 and Malakhov 3.6.

well if your right it's even worse

The fact is Lou is in deep doodoo. And if you notice, other then the crazy White sighning, he has done nothing. Because everyone is circuling like vultures for Gionta and Gomez. Lou think he can dump the bad contracts as a bargaining chip for Gomez or Gionta, but NO GM will take that on. The Phone IS NOT ringing

Dan McGillis was sent to the minors also, cleared waivers... they had like 7M playing in the minors...

The only way another team would take either of these guys is if they get Gomez or Gionta (most likely Gomez) too.

Whatever happens, the Devils will lose at least one of Gionta and Gomez.

4 teams from the same division is a reach, but i even saw all 5 teams from NE projected as playoffs bound...

HERE is a general rule you should follow:

a. 3 teams from 2 divisions and 2 from the other. You probably got a much better chance at getting something decent.

b. 4-2-2 is POSSIBLE but you got to have 2 of those teams in the bottom playoffs spots (6 to 8).

c. 5 teams, while not impossible, is hardly probable... If you really want so, put the teams of that division in the slots: 3-5-6-7-8.
____________

Those 32 inter-division games will do just that.

personnally I don't understand why so many people put Buffalo 2nd or 3rd... they have the same team then last thing, but you take off their best defenseman and at least one player because of the arbitration... how the hell can they be better than last year?

Personnally I see them 6th or 7th... I'm sorry

The Devils will NOT make the playoffs next year.

The Rangers will drop some, getting in the playoffs in 8th place. The bottom clubs in thier division have got a lot better, no easy games next year.

Look for Pittsburg to move all the way up to 9th.
Boston will actualy play better but lose many close games, overall team speed still being the problem.
Philly will drop some to 8th-9th

Toronto will actualy drop some. Still plagued with not so good 3rd and 4th lines compaired to all the others. Team speed is still an issue. Still too many knife fighters ( big but slowish) to a gun fight ( speed to burn)

I will guarantee you that the Devils not only make the playoffs but are a major Cup contender. That team is deep and strong. Lamoriello managed the cap last year and will do the same this year.

Nope, Jersey is way too good not to make the playoffs.

Standings

This is how I see it breaking down

1. Buffalo - sure they lost mckee but they have so many forwards still developing to their full potential that their offence will be insane!
2. NYR - very few losses, excellent pick ups in grit and goal scoring with Shanny and cullen.
3. Ottawa - Havlat is big 2nd line offensive hole because alot of teams in their division improved. Gerber is not the solution, though nice extra defensive firepower in Corvo and Pressing
4. Philly - Forseburg ready at the start of the season, but slow D will make life difficult in playoffs.
5. Carolina - Good team, will suffer from sophmore Stanley Cup slump and losses on D that have not been replaced.
6. Montreal - improved, but not alot, need some rookies to have break out years also speedy existing cast.
7. Atlanta- This is their year to propel themselves into the post season, barring another year of Goalie "Days of our lives" injury drama.
8 New Jersey - Good ol Lou would have to pull out the trade of the decade to get himself out of cap trouble, Gomez or Gionta is gone and I see one of the other GM's plundering him bad for them.
9. Toronto - ah, another year of "who should we fire now cuz we didn't make the playoffs" It will take monumental effort from Rookies and Hal Gill being as good as Pronger for them to see the post season.
10. Tampa Bay - A goalie helps but some losses in supporting cast (Modin, Kubina) which they can't replace plus a weak prospect system equals missing the playoffs.... barely
11. Boston- Bruins fans will love their first line of sturm-bergeron-boyes and hate the fact that they paid WAY too much for Chara and Savard, this team will be the one to sag near the end of the season out of the 8th spot.
12. Florida - Good team, unproven goalie equals golfing in April barring an Auld Save-a-thon.
13.Pittsburg - will finally figure out defense is necessary in the NHL, unfortunately they will figure this out with 10 games left in the season.
14. NYI - The curse of the Yashin contract noose continues, I heard NYI fans tried to raise the $21 million to buy him out on Ebay but it was pulled down. Ebay said something about it was "cruel and unusual punishment to get NYI fans hopes up"
15. Washington - I hope Pothier enjoys playing 30 minutes a game because he will cry when the rest of washingtons Dmen are on the Ice. Kolzig will see so much vulcanized rubber he'll feel like he's working at the puck factory. Him and Ovechkin will win them 15 games, but hopefully Esposito can make the jump in 2007-2008 when they get the #1 draft pick.

Too early to say, so I'll just say where the Habs will finish.

I say 4th-6th if Huet is solid, and just barely 8th if Huet sucks and we rely on Aebischer.

1. Carolina: Cam Ward will continue the great job and will be a huge STAR
2. Buffalo: Great D, Great Goalie and real fast team.
3. Tampa: Strongest team in their division.
4. Montreal: Mark my word, Samsonov will score 40 goals. FAStest team with BUF.
5. Philadelphie: Great forwards with some good youth.
6. New Jersey: Still has the best goalie in the league.
7. Ottawa: I think they will collapse.
8. Pittsburgh: I trust Michel Therrien, and Crosby, Malkin will be deadly
9. NYR: D is not good enough.
10. Atlanta: Kovalchuk, Hossa, Lethonen and Coburn, after that....
11. Florida: Will be good everywhere except in goal.
12. Boston: Awful depth everywhere
13. Washington: Ovechkin and others great young up and coming player.
14. Toronto: 1967, remind you something!
15. Islanders: Mike Milbury still there, nuff said.

I'd like to see it happen, but Sammy has never even scored 30...I do think we'll have a 40 goal scorer this season, but his name will be either Alex Kovalev or Michael Ryder (hopefully both).
