Marchand has been great, but up to this point he has shown to be a poor powerplay player.

Thornton just kills me. I can't even imagine Marchand chirping. It must be hilarious.

Loved him since back in the day watching him play in the Q and wasn't even drafted by the Bruins yet, was so happy when they selected him. Kid can instigate but has unbelievable hockey sense

I was thinking the complete opposite. On the PP, he comes out of the corners with the puck, and he's so quick that he can make things happen. What we need is for the other players to move. I think Peverley has a similar ability. I think the PP needs speed and movement, and the players who can provide the necessary speed are Marchand, Peverley and Seguin (in that order). I haven't seen much of that in Seguin, but he's only 21 and that will come, I'm sure.

I think the league will implode when he wins the Rocket Richard this year. (at least Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto etc...)

I think his offensive talent has been greatly underrated even despite the 2010-2011 playoffs; people seem to shrug his performance off as a result of playing with Bergeron and Seguin. Or they let his playing on the edge overshadow the fact that he has some slick skill.

I think Marchand will be an annual 30+ goal player for the Bruins.

He will be lucky to be at 20% by the end of the year. He better start getting some assists or in 10 games we will have a thread about how he sucks, and hasn't played the same since the time John Scott looked at him menacingly while Marchand skated circles around him .

he has a third of the teams' powerplay goals... including seguin's empty net pp goal. i think he will get more pp time, he's an any situation player.

I'm already looking forward to his retirement thinking he's going to be joining the ranks of Boston sports media. He should have a call in talk show named "You're On With Shawn".

The kid is good: 9 goals in 14 games; two behind Stamkos.

I'm sure he has it in him to be a good PP player with those quick feet, good release and shiftyness, but so far he really has been a bit of a hindrance. Tends to make too many sloppy passes that leads to turnovers and SH rushes. Needs to cool himself down a notch and not force plays. He is great at puck recovery in the corners and skating it out of traffic, but it's what happens next he's failing a bit at at the moment.

Thing is though, he's out only LH skill player (a bit of a roster weakness, that), so he should be out there. And with added PP time I'm sure he'll improve his decision making too.

Hopefully not another 2-6 loss there!

This is a must-win for us. For them, it will be their 4th game in 3 days.

Looking like a good value contract extension on Chiarelli's part @ $4.5M.

Our UFA resignings last summer weren't spectacular (Thornton, Kelly, Campbell meh) by any means but Chia did well on all the extensions he gave out early. When Seguin is the only questionable one thats a good thing. Lucic and Marchand are clearly worth it. Would look like robbery if there was a rollback.

Others have speculated that Chiarelli was banking on a rollback with regards to the Lucic contract. He's a very good player, but it's hard to argue that he should be their top paid forward based on what he contributes.

Unique player and someone else would have given him stupid money.

Rollback would have been nice but the team loses its identity without him.

If you think he is overpaid you just ditch deadweight like Thornton and Campbell soaking up 3 mil combined to compensate. Its a no brainer to overpay him certain players (Vanek or Weber for instance) will be worth stupid high cap hits and he's one of them.

I agree that it's hard to measure Lucic's intangibles on the pay scale. I'm a big fan. He's probably my favorite player now that Thomas is gone.

I think Thornton needs to be gone after this season. No way do I pay the 12th forward over a million, especially a 36 year old enforcer.
