That's the reason I brought up Loui. If you look at the roster, he's the only player over 25 that would bring back his worth at least in a deal. Kicking tires.

And If we ended up with either of those packages Philly ended up with, I'm satisfied.
Well, you brought up a slew of trades like the Shanahan/Pronger one, which really isn't like the ones you just mentioned but moving along...

The Kessel deal was going to be win/win almost no matter what from a Boston perspective. They were already a good playoff team with depth scoring who could stand to lose him, not that it wouldn't hurt in the short term a little. The Stars aren't in that position right now. Again, "futures" are one thing and getting solid roster players in a swap is something else.

I think it would be a better place to start by trying to package roy and ryder to a team that needs some scoring in return we could get a very good prospect. I think there are other tradable assets you would want to turn over first.

If you think this was interesting. Read the Kari trade thread. Oh man, that is hilarious to look back on.

Didn't someone propose the idea of an Eriksson for Seguin swap like right before it happened?

I just remember saying no to it. :p

Jim Nill was a big part of the Seguin trade but I think Nieuwendyk probably could have done that trade too.

It seems as though Reilly's been more of a plus for the Bruins than Loui.....hard to believe that'll remain constant going forward, but it's nice to see the deal work out for both teams.

More for us, obviously, but I doubt the B's fans are in the "we got ripped" stage that was so ample around here after Goligoski showed up.

I'm not sure about that. It's more of a ballsy move, while most of Nieuwy's moves were "safe".

I'd probably place Vish for Kari and Neal/Niskanen for Goligoski more in the ballsy column than the safe one. Also dealing Ribs, Otter, and Morrow had to take some kind of testes. Who the heck knows if he would have been ballsy enough to dig deeper in to the actual nucleus of the core and deal Loui though.

Letting Modano walk was pretty ballsy in its own right. The right decision, too.

This thread makes me think about how our team could have looked if we only made good trades:

Benn – Seguin – Neal
Whitney – Peverley – Chiasson
Nichushkin – Eakin – Ryder
Roussel – Fiddler – Jeffery

Dillon – Robidas
Oleksiak/Connauton – Daley
Gonchar – Benn

Lehtonen
Ellis

Well, it certainly was ballsy.

That defense makes me want to puke. But it's better, if anything.

Ryder wouldn't be here as he wouldn't be re-signed, nor would Whitney be signed.

Benn – Seguin – Chiasson
Neal – Peverley – Nichushkin

That would be the top six.

I'll be that guy.

Every event has consequences on following events. If we never traded Neal for Goligoski it's possible a ton of other events following that non-trade would have gone a different direction and we don't have Nichushkin, Seguin, Peverley, etc. But yeah, adding Neal to this lineup would be sweet.
