Briere shows up as a center on ESPN; but I thought he played more right wing? Considering the buyout option; I'd totally be on board with a 1st for him; or a 2nd a fringe prospect.
I like Chris Bourque, but no doubt that a third line of Kelly-Peverley-Briere would be a big upgrade, especially during the playoffs.
He's a centre, but has been playing on the wing recently due to the depth we have at centre.
I would be very surprised if it's about him, but we shall see, I suppose.
If you are stating that you would have Boston buy Briere out in the summer and then resign him, teams can't resign players that they buyout.
Sorry, I was referring to poster who said Philly re-sign him in offseason. Sorry for confusion. Id pay a 3rd + Krug for a playoff run with Briere. Guy steps it up in a major way in the post season.

Now that works
That would be a good deal imo. How's Krug been doing so far? I know his size might be an issue in the NHL but he is a true PMD corrrect?

He's been solid. I'd love to see him get called up to Boston, showcase his stuff. He's quick and shifty, and skates with his head up at all times. I think he'll be an NHL regular some day soon. His lack of size limits him, but he has the skill set to overcome it.
did i seriously just see people arguing briere isn't worth a late 1st round pick
am i alive right now
He is worth it... but considering Boston's cap situation it would be too expensive to pay... basically means Breire + Boychuck/Peverly/Kelly because someone will have to go to make room to sign Rask and others next year.
This is surprising because in the three tweets in the OP it stats that Boston is looking to make moves to bolster their lineup. The Flyers then obviously would be sellers come deadline time if that is true. Briere would make sense for Boston, maybe Feds and Talbot too. Just a little veteran leadership can't hurt during a playoff run.
Yeah, Briere is worth a 1st rounder. A late 1st rounder mind you (Which Boston will probably have) but a 1st rounder nonetheless.

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
I'd say it most likely involves Boychuk. He's a very steady defenseman who can log 20+ minutes a night, albeit a bit overpaid. The problem is, I don't want to see Johnson full-time in our lineup. We need another defenseman back if we trade him. Hamilton is great and he's been our 3rd best defenseman this year in my opinion, but I'm not sure he's ready for 1st pairing duties.
Seidenberg is not available. No way we're trading him unless you're into being laughed at.
I'd be very interested in Briere. Talk about depth... If all he's going to take is a first, bring him right over. He's a clutch playoff performer, too. We could certainly use him.
I understand he might be an important player to your team come playoff time, but to even mention Giroux is laughable.
What he means to say is that he's not available. His value to the Bruins is quadruple the amount of his actual value.
No one in their right mind would propose Seids for Giroux. He's exaggerating.

Cap isn't an issue this year. If you preferred Briere were a pending UFA, the Bruins could buy him out in the summer when the cap does become an issue.
I wouldn't have given up a first for Gaustad. But Briere has more value than Gaustad.
This. You can deal with his contract for next year during the summer. Amnesty, trade him.... there are fixes.

Don't think that gets it done. Krug's value isn't high right now, and there will be teams that would easily beat a borderline AHL prospect and a late 3rd round pick. Briere for a late 1st. Nice and simple.

Yeah I'm not sure why people keep insisting he'd be bought out at the end of the year. He can always be traded if needed in the off season. His real salary is so low that small market teams would be all over it IMO. What I'm not sure about is if he has any trade clauses that could hurt Chia's ability to move him in the off season. Not saying this would be the trade but say the Bruins get him for a 1st at the deadline. I'm sure they could move him for a 2nd at the draft. With a contract like his I don't see it being much of a issue and the B's could get back a smaller piece to help off set the loss of the first.
