He comes across well in the broadcast booth.

It wouldn't be a big surprise, to see DiPietro move onto to a career in broadcasting once he accepts, he's no longer able to stay healthy enough to be a pro.

It's not going to happen and this has been discussed at length in past threads. DP either retires or gets bought out. Until then, they need his cap hit.

Considering he's an Isles for life under Wang, I always assumed Ricky would be part of the organization in some sort of capacity. I could see him in the broadcast booth one day.

Do you remember when he turned down the Bachelor so many years ago? Ah, the good old days when he could actually play and was becoming the face of the franchise.

BUY OUT !
This doesnt save them money. He gets paid the same amount in the AHL as the NHL. It actually costs them more to bring up Poulin and still pay Dp. Jeez i get the Isles bashing but if you guys are gonna do it, do it right.

I see that idea being pursued, but Nino being the bait instead of a potential top 5 pick.

Some of his players are starting to show some life. There may even be hope for Kessel so maybe Carlyle could work with a lost cause like DP.

Christmas morning on Long Island and for all Islander fans.

Not sure if this was anything more than a hockey move. I believe the compliance buyout is only for active players, not assets in AHL.

This was a move based on the fact that he is one of the most inept goalies. Not because of injuries alone. That just added to what was always their. A guy with a 5 head who would take long strolls into the corners to give the puck to the winger coming down the ice for an easy empty net goal. When ever Rick "Red Light" DiPietro was in net for the Islanders, I always knew we would need a minimum of 4 goals to win. Mostly because "Red Light" was good for 2 soft ones, and the other team would score at least one... so....

Happy days on Long Island!!!

not often we can say that!

He did. League turned it down. Then he hired Neil Smith, Then Snow. Then offered it again.

Although it wont happen, it would be really nice if someone would claim him. We'd have a whole new GM to rip on these boards for years to come.

Pretty sure that's not it. I think it's league minimum + 375k, anything over that counts against the cap.
