If Gunnar and Liles are at their lowest value, we will not trade them.

If Gunnar and Liles bring more to the team than a lowly pick or prospect, we will not trade them

Overall, we aren't the ones with our backs against the wall. We have capable Dmen who could play top4 mins on certain teams, if the price is right we will gladly move one or both of them.

Gunnar (WHEN HEALTHY) / Phaneuf

Fraser / Franson

Holzer / Gardnier

for now

Holzer / dion

fraser / franson

gunnar / gardnier

kostka: is awful

liles: is a liability, we have to many players of his calibre with better defensive skills.

Komi: see kostka.

need some people for injuries, but you can always give the kids a shot like blacker, (maybe hes not a kid) BUT mottau could slide into that 3rd pair shutdown guy...

Carl Gunnarsson for a 1st round pick.
JM Liles + 1 MILLION PER for a 2nd round pick.
Mike Komisarek + 1 MILLION PER for a 3rd round pick.

Why do we trade arguable our best d-man last year for a pick when we need him... he might not be healthy, but when he is he's a beast...

that makes 0 sense, to trade a good d for a pick, are we rebuilding? do we have an abundance or carl gunnarson?? we can several liles' and kostka's but 1 gunnar.

Maybe the Canes would go for a 2nd. Gunnar doesn't have the greatest value at the moment.
but we dont need to trade gunnar... and is better than komi.

I guess he doesnt realize that he is actually hurt and not 100%. Carl has a hip injury and needs to rest and rehab to get better, so as long as he plays he cant fix it.

Thats why he gets limited ice time and isnt on the 1st pair and why we must suffer watching holzer try to learn his poistion.

Right, that's what I'm thinking as well. I know there's a sense of panic because we're down our #1, 3, and 4 dmen right now with our #7 guy having taken a knock in the last game. But Gleason and Pitkanen are at least back skating in practice so they shouldn't be long for returning to the lineup.

Only other thought is adding some offensive depth for the 3rd line, or more of a true #3 center to allow Jussi to move back to the wing.

First of all, HOLZER is awful.

Kostka has been phenomenal, he's steady steady steady. Love him.

Mottau will never play a game for us.

Holzer has been steady. I don't know what you are watching.

Holzer and Fraser do nothing flashy at all, but they know exactly where there linemates are and make the simplest plays. Smarts.

There is no way the Leafs retain salary on John-Micheal Liles. A 30-40 point, top-4 defender at 3.8 million? That is a great deal.

If you are allowed to retain cap in one year and then nothing the next. I think Komisarek could be moved. 50% of his salary for this year, but you'd eat the whole contract next season. The Leafs would have no interest paying for cap beyond this season for players who won't be on their team. They already have 2 mil tied up in Armstrong/Tucker buyouts with the cap going down.

Holzer is not awful. Just because he doesn't rack up points, doesn't mean he's awful.

Not until a trade happens. It's been said that he deserves to be up and they want him up. There is just no way of doing it at the moment until they move some bodies around unless they're willing to lose a guy to waviers. They've got no reason to do that though with the way the Leafs entire defence has played

I don't see the need for the Leafs to retain salary for Komisarek. Shortened season and on top of that what would the other team be on the hook for? Maybe 750K. What my old man used to say, can't afford it than don't go shopping.

Liles. Why would the Leafs retain part of the salary for the next four years? That is just backwards. sounds like some young ones have this wrapped in their head so they go spewing out there on HF.

Liles has tons of value where he is, don't need to retain salary. Give it time and many teams will be calling for availability. I'm in no rush to make other teams lives easier.

Retain salary? What a joke.

I never said Fraser was bad, Fraser is awesome. HOLZER being good and steady/blah blah blah is a myth. The guy is awful.

I don't care about his points, he's playing poorly as a defensive dman. It's that simple.

MacArthur + Liles (1 mil retained)

for

J. Staal.

Kidding, but Mac, Liles, Komi and Steckel seem like they have no future with this team anymore.

The problem right now is that once Gards is called up, they will not be able to send him down again without having to clear waivers. Our defense is playing well now, so it's tough to say when.

Gunnar is not available, I'm quite sure of that. It has to be Liles and Komisarek who are on the market.

I'd move Liles at full salary for a late 2nd.

Exactly. You retain salary to move players like Lombardi/Connolly/Komisarek, not Liles.
