Oilers/Coyotes

This isn't the GDT, but can hold us over til tomorrow.

Listening to Stauffer, he's really pushing for a trade and for changes to be made.

This is what I want the team to look like next year.

Hall-Hopkins-Eberle
Clowe-Couturier-Yakupov
Paajarvi-Boyle-Horton
Haritkainen-Belanger-Eager
Kassian-VandeVelde

As for tomorrow, if Hall gets a 1 or 2 game suspension, can't see it being more than that, I'd go with these lines also assuming Jones is back.

Eager-Hopkins-Eberle
Jones-Gagner-Hemsky
Smyth-Belanger-Yakupov
Hartikainen-VV-Paajarvi

I've heard the CHED guys use the term "must-win 4 or 5 times already this season, and If I recall correctly, the only one of those games we won was the CBJ game which we didn't deserve. Rob Brown called tomorrow's game a must-win, I'm not sure it really matters at this point.

I'll wager that the Oilers have to go at least 22-10 the rest of the way to make the playoffs. Ain't gonna happen so the media can cut the crap with this "must win" stuff.

Even if I was home to watch this game I probably wouldn't.

Sounds like another 3-1 loss.

I highly doubt we beat the Coyotes, we always do horribly against them. The playoffs are quickly slipping away.

First game I'm going to this year. It sucks that Hall is likely not going to play. I hope for a 6-5 barn burner, but expect a 2-1 loss. I'm really not excited to be going to this one at all with the way this team is playing.

6-1 Coyotes and all Oiler fans go into full freak-out mode.

Where did the Oilers get Couturier from? The Flyers wouldn't even give him up in a trade for Shea Weber. Don't think that Hemsky+Gagner will cut it.

They don't have a hope at a playoff spot. But I still can't bring myself to hope for losses for the better draft pick...I know it's anti-productive but I don't care, so tired of tanking...

I wouldn't mind seeing the Oilers drafting 1st overall again, just because then this site will crash.

Pretty much a guaranteed loss. Phoenix is another team that we never win against.

Only way we get back in the playoff picture is if we win minimum 7/9 on the upcoming roadtrip... So yeah, go ahead and start the Death for Seth, Aimin' for Nathan, God knows what for god knows whom threads, and look forward to the playoffs in 2017.

No improvement in this team whatsoever. In fact we seem to be going backwards.

Anyone with time should listen the the first portion of of Marek vs. Wyshynski, they spend a good 15-20 minutes talking about the Oilers, nothing new being said, but a little different perspective. The best point they made was that the Oilers only know how to play one way irregardless of who's on the roster, and it's been that way for years.

Definitely worth the listen though.

OP, you do you propose we land/trade for Horton, Clowe, Kassian, Coutourier, Boyle?

I'd love it if we did...

Horton and Clowe are UFAs.

Kassian is going on waivers.

Boyle could be had for a second or third round pick.

Couturier we would have to pony up some good stuff, it's wishful thinking.

Does it matter anymore?

The Oilers basically need to become a top-10 team out of nowhere to have a shot at the playoffs - and we have The Road Trip of Death coming up.

Might as well tank it again and trade the pick.

I'm a bitter, bitter man after losing all my VCash last game after honestly believing the Oilers would win.

Now that I've lost it all I'm betting the Oilers will win the next game... since I have nothing left to bet... no doubt they win that game.

22-10 would give them 59 pts, which I think would definitely put them in the playoffs (maybe even as a 4 seed). My quick estimates of points and playoff probability are:

Pts Pro-Rated Chance of Making Playoffs
57 97.4 99
56 95.7 95
55 94.0 90
54 92.3 70
53 90.5 40
52 88.8 10

I'm thinking 54 points is the cut-off, and to get there, we could go 18-10-4. 4 of 14 losses being brought to OT is pretty much what we have now; close to 30%.

Of course this means getting points at .625 here on in as opposed to the .469 we've been getting, which is getting achieved thus far only by: MTL, NJ, BOS, PIT, CHI, ANA, VCR, SJ. We'd have to be as good for the rest of the season as the top 8 have been to now, so not a lost cause yet but it sure is a hill to climb.

Split RNH and Eberle if Halls out. Hall is the other burst on energy on that line right now.

Yakapov-RNH-Hemsky
Paajarvi-Gagner-Eberle
Smyth-Belanger-Eager
T.H.-VV-Petell/Jones if they're both ready.

Smid-J.Schultz
Fistric-Petry
Peckham-N.Schultz.

There you go Ralph.

Oilers had to go 4-1 on this home stand at minimum to have a shot at the playoffs with a gruesome 9 game in 16 day road trip. They have already screwed the season. We will be realistically out of it after this road trip, yeah half way though the season.

You know that beat stick will not make a trade before the deadline.
