Because he's probably not planning on selling the team.. That article was so weak from the post I just don't buy it.

I actually think CREW may in fact be Garth Snow.

DiPietro Will Be Forever Defined By An Offer He Couldn’t Refuse

Imagine you play sports professionally and your team’s owner decides to offer you a 15-year contract at a rate that would never put you in a position to worry about anything having to do with money again.

What would you do? Honestly? If you liked the area where the team was located, had no issue with the direction the franchise was heading and felt a sense of loyalty due to the fact that this same organization also decided to make you the first at your position to go No. 1 overall in the draft, would you seriously say no?

What Rick DiPietro did back in September 2006 was probably what any of us would have done. He secured his future. He made sure no one in his family would ever face financial issues again.

And anyone who blames him for that, regardless of how his career turned out, is just a fool.

His cap hit I believe still counts.

Exactly. I don't hate DP. I just think he is done. I don't blame himone bit for signing that contract. I 1000% would have done the same thing. No doubt in my mind. Wish him well when his career is over.

The more i thought about it Blitz, what you just said popped into my mind. Why would the new owner want to be paying a buyout for 16 years. Maybe it will be a compliance buyout. I pray that it is.

Can't happen. It would be too good to be true.

What would be the sense in doing the old buy out on this? It's not like Thomas' contract which has a cap hit but no real money gets paid out. Wang has to pay money either way on DP's contract, even in a buy out scenario.

A compliance buyout. It would send the message that the team is ready to build to compete starting this offseason. Hell, I'd take any buyout. But if you're in for a penny you'd better be in for a pound. So I don't get the idea of a non-compliance buyout.

I mean, I'd love either kind of buyout, but what are the chances? Honestly...

A little bit of an update on everything a little weird but this is the Islanders we're talking about:

Quote:
Kevin Poulin is starting for Bport tonight in Springfield. If he can make it Buff tomorrow, DiPietro will go down to BST tomorrow.
Quote:
If Poulin can't make it, DiPietro will stay with #Isles and back up tomorrow, then likely report to BST on Sunday.
Watch Poulin get hurt...

I thought you meant functionally, not rationally... Got it.

Wang is trying to hide under the NVMC lease as a pauper for as long as he can.

It would be a stretch, but DP is currently under Wang's insurance, not the SPC one. Obviously the provisions are confidential and Wang is a schister...

An alternative is the Isles proceed with an argument to the insurance company that Wang's conditions have become so debilitating he can no longer perform at the terms identified in the contract. The move to BST establishes he can't do it at the AHL level. There is probably a mountain of medical reports to support this, however, it's a major stretch.

I'll be livid if they buy him out under the old CBA. We are moving to NEW YORK CITY. We have a chance to be a major market team. Don't waste 4.5m of cap space on a retired player.

We should be so lucky!

Seriously, I also wondered aloud a few pages ago in this thread whether the move to the AHL might not be an attempt to build a case that DP is physically unable to play and therefore insurance pays his contract.

This.

And I still don't think they buy him out. I still think they will try to play him until he breaks something again and insurance kicks in.

I feel like cap buyouts should be subtracted from your max cap room, not added to your existing floor. so let's say the cap is 60mil, the flyers buyout whoever and the cap hitis 3mil, they should only have an available cap of 57mil. would sort this out wangs circumvention in a minute.

edit: actually can anyone see anything bad about this? it still gives a disadvantage to cap spending teams and doesn't 'help' teams like the islanders being creative to make the floor.

Wang was an absolute idiot for signing him to this contract to begin with. Hes always hurt, and hes played like 3 games this season because hes back up. Talk about a total waste.
