Count me in the other 10% Its unlikely that cup finalist misses playoffs in immediate next season.

What's worse is that Habs, Leafs and Ducks were predicted to be in the basement by more than 90% including their own fans (at least for Leafs and Habs).

Heck, season opener was 'Battle of Tanks' IIRC.

The Habs would have to lose 2/3 about of their remaining games to miss the POs IMO and I don't see that happening, not with the way they've been playing this year.

I'm glad to see that the predictions most people made before the season started are completely off. The whole copy paste last year's top 8 and mix em around thing was getting old. With the parity in this league no one can really tell who will or won't have success in any given year. Just look at the Kings, their roster virtually hasn't changed and look at where they are in the standings after over about 1/3 of the season played.

With that said, here's my list:

East:

1- Penguins
2- Bruins
3- Hurricanes
4- Canadiens
5- Maple Leafs (as much as I hate to admit it)
6- Devils
7- Rangers
8- Lightning or Flyers (I think it's going to be down to the wire with these 2)

West:

1- Blackhawks
2- Ducks
3- Wild (I actually think they have a chance to beat out the 'nucks this year, even with low scoring)
4- Blues
5- Canucks
6- Sharks
7- Predators
8- Red Wings, Kings, Stars or Coyotes (This one is up in the air and I think it will be determined in the very last game of the season, should be exciting to say the least)

That's one way of looking at it. The other would be:

The Kings are missing half their defense
Quick was coming off back surgery
The kings have games in hand on many of the teams above them because they have only played 15 games
The Kings have played an NHL low 4 home games
The Kings have played their best hockey this year in the past 7-10 days

The Kings will be fine

Boston and Chicago in the finals. One of the most physical teams in the league against the least physical team in the league. Would be interesting.

I'm not confident the Ducks can make it out of March still in the top 4 in the standings to be honest. Brutal schedule.

I think this is the year that the Canucks play the Hawks in the Western Final, but I am a bit biased.

It is clear you don't watch the western conference am I right?

No way Edm makes the playoffs and Vancouver falls that far

No way the Sens last that long with all the injuries they have. I say Tampa or Philly replaces Ottawa.

The cool thing about these predictions is, I don't think the top 4 teams are heavy favourites over the bottom 4 in either conference.

Love the parity!

Boston sure owned the canadiens that year, what with 4(basically) 1 goal games.

Yep, that pacioretty injury had no bearing on the bruins cup run.
It's fair to say he would not have contributed 1 goal in three games. Have a look at this season, he's good for one every 12 games unfortunately playoff series are not 12 games.

Really dont see Detroit making it this year.

Chicago
Anaheim
Vancouver
Nashville
St Louis
San Jose

are all teams I consider better than.

Phoenix
Minnesota
Los Angeles

are all teams theyll be fighting spots for. Not to mention injuries are taking a toll. LA is also playing much better lately, dont have a full team, played very few games as well.

Detroit could slip down to 11th tonight.

Losing a lot of winnable games.

Obviously most of the teams currently in a playoff spot will still make it.

Good starts to short seasons are important, and some of these teams are so far ahead in the standings its nuts, especially in the East (NJ, BOS, MTL, PIT) and West (CHI, ANA, VAN)

Yep, the Canadiens couldn't score one 5 on 5 goal in the last 2+ games of the series. Two 5-3 goals in game 6 is the only reason it even went 7. Bruins started off slow in the series, and then got their act together to take 4 out of 5. Which would've been 4 straight if not for the BS officiating in game 6.

Game 6 penalty minutes for reference. Bos 27 min Mon 8 min.

An entire period worth of being short handed, and yet, The B's STILL out chanced and out shot the Habs 32-27. Talk about domination.

But yes, you're right, the Habs were a Pacioretty away from raising the Cup themselves.

Dreamer.
