This exactly, with the Bolts being solidly above the Flyers(possibly swapping spots with Carolina)

Heck, season opener was 'Battle of Tanks' IIRC.
Tell that to the chunk of cup winners/finalists that did this exact thing since the last lockout. IIRC Anaheim and Carolina went from cups to missing the playoffs. Could be wrong. Welcome to parity.

Game 6 penalty minutes for reference. Bos 27 min Mon 8 min.

An entire period worth of being short handed, and yet, The B's STILL out chanced and out shot the Habs 32-27. Talk about domination.

But yes, you're right, the Habs were a Pacioretty away from raising the Cup themselves.

Dreamer.
Yea, the refs were totally biased towards us

The current paxce of the 9th place team would have them at 51 points by season's end. So the Habs would need 27 more points in 31 more games. That would be a record of 13-17-1, or maybe 12-18-3. That's not losing 2/3 of their games. Most teams that are playing well now will still have to play around .500 hockey to get in.

The Habs have played a lot of teams currently not in the playoffs. I'd expect that you drop a little bit when you're schedule gets tougher. Not all the way out of the playoffs but I'd guess maybe 6th or 7th. It's definately not even close to guarenteed that you make it though.

My guess, and I don't watch the west very often.

1. Bruins
2. Pens
3. Lighting
4. Rangers
5. Devils
6. Leafs
7. Habs
8. Flyers

1. Blackhawks
2. Canucks
3. Ducks
4. Preds
5. Kings
6. Sharks
7. Blues
8. Coyotes

Anaheim lost to Dallas in 08. They made them. In addition, in 2009 they took Detroit to game 7 where they lost by 1 goal in the closing minutes. It was 09-10 and 11-12 where they missed.

Just saying

Ahh, thank you. I am too lazy to look up which teams went from finals/cups to missing the playoffs, but I know there were several teams that did this in the 2000s. I found it very bewildering. It happens more often than you'd think.

In game 6, absolutely. I'm not making anything up, it's actually a fact your team could'nt score 5 on 5. Don't matter though, the right team lost.

A Montreal-Toronto playoff series would be absolute insanity. When was the last time they played in the playoffs 76 or 77?

Not too sure, but it's been a long long time.

Oh, I'm sorry, i was sure that losing 18-21 games out of 31 was equivalent to 2/3...

BTW, 12-18-3 = 33 games, not 31

Math... DEFINITELY a hard concept to grasp.

If you rational is that the Bruins winning a cup based on the fact that Montreal didn't have Patches, I feel sorry for the Habs. And calling Chara a diver is funny. Worked for Ribeiro and Kovalev, right?

You mean players who haven't been on the roster for 4 and 7 seasons respectively?

I think it's safe to say our entire fan base feels the burn.

Edit: Not to mention that game 3(the only non-1 goal game) was 1 goal+1 empty netter.

Boston sure owned the canadiens that year, what with 4(basically) 1 goal games.

Yep, that pacioretty injury had no bearing on the bruins cup run.

Assuming facts not in evidence usually doesn't work for prosecutors. Player X averages Y goals for Z amount of games, therefore this is fact for future games.

Don't look now but your milk has spilled.

I'm not getting into ****slinging, we were enjoying a conversation on the top 16 and forayed into a conversation about B's Habs from almost two seasons ago. I actually complimented the Habs in my original statement.

I will restate this, the Habs, current position in the conference notwithstanding is going to be another dogfight, Michael Vick status. I love playing against you guys and look forward to it especially considering now Markov is healthy who is your best DMan bar none. In fact, I'm going to listen to Grimes right now as a peace offering until we play you next.

18/31 is closer to 1/2 than it is 2/3. So I claim you have to win half you remaining games to get in and it's more accurate than what you said.

Based on previous seasons people were predicting it would take 54-56 points to get in. That has dropped to pacing 51 through 15-18 games. It will likely got back up slightly.

Fact is, it's going to take a lot more than 10 wins for the Habs to make the playoffs. If they don't get at least 13 they'll probably miss. Yes that's only 3 wins diffence but with only 31 games left, 3 wins bring you far away from 2 thirds.

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/E.../Montreal.html

Apparently if Montreal play at a 0.452 point percentage through the rest of the year, they only have a 33.3% chance to make the playoffs, that's what I'm trying to say, you're going to have to be closer to .500 than .333 to makr the playoffs

I do think you guys will get in

West:
Canucks
Blackhawks
Ducks
Blues
Sharks
Predators
Kings
Wild

East (I don't know as much but I'll try not to copy the standings as they are now):
Bruins
Penguins
Lightning

Rangers
Hurricanes
Leafs??
Jets???

Wow. That wasn't easy.

the East

1.Boston- Barring an injury to Rask this team is a frontrunner for the conference
2.New Jersey- Always manage to amaze despite age factor. A recipe for success no doubt
3.Carolina- Playing better as of late. perhaps best team in the division
4.Pittsburg- offensive powerhouse. may lose now and again but with the talent a long losing streak is unthinkable
5.Toronto- surprise of the east despite questions in goal and on D entering the season
6. Montreal. Another surprise. barring a collapse this team is headed for postseason run
7. Ottawa- have managed to hold their own despite an epidemic of injuries. no matter how many falls they keep getting up
8. Winnipeg- squeaks in at the end

just short of the cut
9. Philadelphia- leaking net kills their chances.
10. New York (Rangers)-Big checkbook doesn't always equal good results. Unfortunately the blueshirts can't understand that

The West
1.Chicago.- will this team ever lose a game in regulation?
2.Vancouver- still one of the best
3.Anahiem- Fasth is the key wildcard. Teemu's still got it.
4. st.Louis- No Halak? No Problem (for now)
5. Nashville- always manage to get more out of less
6. San Jose-
7. Pheonix
8. Colorado.

just short of cut
9.Detroit- the loss of Lidstrom, Stuart and others will prove too costly in the end

Is it possible that some people here are downplaying Dallas? I know their blue lines a bit questionable but that forward core is pretty deep.

I think the Preds are being underrated a bit (shocker) and the Leafs are being a bit overrated.

7. Tampa
8. Philly

West:

All I want is Toronto to play Montreal AND Ottawa in the PO's this year, but I highly doubt it will happen.
