Keep Whitney and give us a variety pack of Granville Island beers and Penner is all yours.

I would entertain this trade but imo oilers would have to add something maybe 3rd maybe 4th . However due to past trades with oilers i dont see dean going there. Yes i know he publicly made nice but it was a part of his fines to play nice. Privately i still have a feeling he wont make that mistake again. Hense no trades with edmonton till new management is in power.

We've had Penner before. He only uses his size sometimes and we really don't need another inconsistent winger, whether he's big or not.

Basically a wash if you ask me. Two worthless players that won't help either team. Salary is similar.

penner is worthless when he's bad, when hes good hes pretty productive. the only problem the kings have with him is getting to be consistent. whitney has a bum leg and will never be the same.

Don't know about Whitney, but Penner certainly isn't worthless. He's been playing really well, actually, the last few games with Stoll and King.

It's too bad Penner doesn't play in real life the way he plays in NHL 12.

Any time I played with or against the Kings, the guy was an animal.

Good speed for a big guy, enough skill to deke/shoot/score/pass, impossible to knock of the puck with his size, and whenever he threw a hit he pretty much destroyed the guy that had the puck.

In reality though, he's a dog. I don't get the revisionist history of some Kings fans either. He was abysmal in the 2011 playoffs against San Jose. Then the guy was awful in the regular season, Sutter even called him horse-****. He wasn't even that good in the 2012 playoffs. People remember him scoring the OT winner against the Coyotes to send the Kings to the Cup and sensationalize/romanticize it.

The Kings won the cup in spite of him, not because of him. And it was a major mistake by Dean getting duped into re-signing him, even if it was for one year. That money should have been spent on another player or players, preferably another winger (like Semin).

As for the trade, as a Kings fan, I'd do it. At least when healthy, Whitney has been a good solid player. Both contracts are up at the end of the year, Penner won't be back here long term. Penner is healthy and still sucks. Give me the potential top 4 d-man especially with the injuries to Greene Mitchell and Martinez.

O snap ..

Seems like a fair low risk swap... Neither team will get a lot better return.
EDM may have to throw in a 2nd tier prospect.. maybe return Teubert at the very most..

Just like we don't want Penner, and just like we don't want Whitney, we don't want Teubert. Stop trying to give us your crap.

Good trade. Oilers need a veteran leader.

Both players have been pretty bad.

I'd rather just keep Whitney, let him walk, and spend the money elsewhere.

We have more depth on wing than on D, so Whits could be more useful the rest of the way, regardless of how bad he has been.

It's a crap for crap trade in hopes it does both guys some good. You're getting crap in return for someone taking your crap. I don't know what you think Penner will return, but you might want to tone down the indignation.

no need for kings to do this deal. we have younger, cheaper puck movers than overrated whitney. and penner steps up in the playoffs, something the oilers won't have to worry about for a few more years.

Don't know if Penner is the guy to supply that.

Isn't Smyth covering them in that department anyways?

Penner definitely makes me pull my hair, but he was great in the playoffs so I wouldn't trade him for Whitney. We could use help on D but Whitney is not going to provide that.

Despite the cheeseburglar losing his scoring touch I still think we could get more than Whitney.

You are out of your freakin mind. Did you even watch the playoffs last year? Penner was a beast during the playoffs. It's completely unfounded and ignorant with blind hate if you think Penner did not contribute to the cup run.

I don't care what kind of regular season Penner is having or will have. He's looked much better these last 3 games, and if he plays remotely close in the playoffs as he did during last year's, it's worth that gamble.
