I don't have anything against Detroit btw, wouldn't mind they miss the playoffs just because they've made it so many times in a row but I don't really care

13.Avalanche
14.Oilers
15.Blue Jackets

Cup: Rangers over Blackhawks
Above were my preseason predictions from January 6th.

Still early, but so far I am wildly off on a handful of teams, while I got some in the right ballpark. Plenty of time for these standings to change drastically.

My up to date prediction would be.

East
1. Bruins
2. Penguins
3. Carolina
4. Devils
5. Lightning
6. Rangers
7. Canadiens
8. Flyers... Sorry Leaf fans

West
1. Blackhawks
2. Canucks
3. Ducks
4. Blues
5. Predators
6. Kings
7. Wild
8. Sharks

Will stay with my homer vote of Rangers over Blackhawks

I dont think so.

I think the Leafs will actually make the playoffs. Scrivens is holding up quite well for them and the rest of the East below them is pretty mediocre. Ottawa is injury ravaged and Buffalo? They can jocky with Montreal for 2nd in the division. I dont see anyone overtaking Boston at the end.

Theyre better than every team in the Southeast save for Carolina, and the Atlantic theyre better than the Islanders and about ~ with the Rangers and Flyers currently. The latter are certainly better than their records indicate, but Toronto has had a great start and I dont see them stopping. Theyre literally beating everyone up while theyre at it.

2.New Jersey- Always manage to amaze despite age factor. A recipe for success no doubt
3.Carolina- Playing better as of late. perhaps best team in the division
4.Pittsburg- offensive powerhouse. may lose now and again but with the talent a long losing streak is unthinkable
5.Toronto- surprise of the east despite questions in goal and on D entering the season
6. Montreal. Another surprise. barring a collapse this team is headed for postseason run
7. Ottawa- have managed to hold their own despite an epidemic of injuries. no matter how many falls they keep getting up
8. Winnipeg- squeaks in at the end

just short of the cut
9. Philadelphia- leaking net kills their chances.
10. New York (Rangers)-Big checkbook doesn't always equal good results. Unfortunately the blueshirts can't understand that

The West
1.Chicago.- will this team ever lose a game in regulation?
2.Vancouver- still one of the best
3.Anahiem- Fasth is the key wildcard. Teemu's still got it.
4. st.Louis- No Halak? No Problem (for now)
5. Nashville- always manage to get more out of less
6. San Jose-
7. Pheonix
8. Colorado.

just short of cut
9.Detroit- the loss of Lidstrom, Stuart and others will prove too costly in the end

Our only big checkbook bust thus far has been Richards, so?

Nash was acquired via trade/assets and is arguably our best forward thus far. Gaborik was a UFA who has lived up to expectations here. Probably among the best FA signings we have ever had.

I don't really pay any attention to the west anymore, as they aren't competition this year.

In the east:

1. Pittsburgh
2. Montreal
3. Carolina
4. New Jersey
5. New York
6. Boston
7. Toronto
8. Tampa Bay

Richards the only bust eh?

do the names Fluery and Kamensky ring any bells?
6 million a piece if I recall correctly.

Or how about Lindros?

Did having Holik, Jagr or Bure bring them any closer than the 1st round of the playoffs?

the Rags checkbook allowed them to grab Nash and they totally fleeced the Jackets in that deal (IMO)

They've done a terrific job with their blue line. I just hope they don't deal Kreider or Stepan to grab yet another aging superstar.

Does that change the fact he thinks the Leafs could take the Bruins in 7?

Same with New Jersey. Remember how Parise leaving was supposed to put them in the MacKinnon sweepstakes?

1. BOS
2. NJD
3. TBL (I think they win the division, not that they have third most pts in conference!)
4. PIT
5. OTT
6. NYR
7. MTL
8. PHI

Not so sure with the West so a little guess work (well obviously it is all guessing, but a few of my guesses are with very little to no supporting reasons in the west)

1. CHI (I think they will have a slump at some point but regardless of their incredible start they'd be a top 4 seed anyway so they'll make up for it and prob still win the conference tho I think it will get close)
2. VAN
3. PHX
4. STL
5. LA (main issue for them is being in stacked PAC division)
6. NSH
7. SJS
8. DET

Maybe MIN will prove me wrong but I couldn't believe some of the comments I read from some people in the pre-season about how good MIN was, some even saying they would finish ahead of VAN and stuff.

So many good teams it's hard to choose who is ahead of who from 4-8. I feel crazy putting SJS at 7 but at the same time I feel just as crazy putting NSH at 7 for example.

I feel weird putting Anaheim out of the playoffs but I don't see any of those 8 teams missing it either. It feels so wrong to say it, but if any of those teams doesn't make it, it's probably DET.

Nobody had the Habs in the playoffs. Aside some Habs fans. They had an easy schedule so far but they are #1 right now and I dont see how they could miss the playoffs with all their scoring depth and strong blueline.

Nope they weren't stop the bs. I was at game 6 and I remember both 5 on 3's. One of them was caused by a slash that blew up Gionta's stick and the other was a puck over the glass penalty. No grey zone in those calls.

Healthy Markov, healthy Gionta, emergence of Raphael Diaz makes a pretty big difference though and were unknown variables.

Why are some people pegging Phoenix in as a playoff team. That is not supposed to happen. We are bottom feeders

Hahaha, nice.

Yeah, if it was a full-length season they'd still prob make the playoffs, but now with 1/3rd of the season finished already... That's by far my boldest prediction I'd say. And least probable.

EDIT: If I was putting money on gambling on this or anything I'd put them in the playoffs simply by taking probabilities more into account.

We basically need 29 points in the last 30 games to make the playoffs, it's pretty unlikely we'd collapse enough to not get those points.
