Next up, I think, are the Calgary Hitmen: Brandon Kozun, Alex Roach and Martin Jones. Two of those guys were undrafted signings.

Barrie Colts (2): Kyle Clifford and Tanner Pearson
Kitchener Rangers (2): Justin Azevedo and Mike Richards
Guelph Storm (2): Dustin Brown & Drew Doughty

These are legitimately off the top of my head, can anyone help me out?
Owen Sound Attack: David Kolomatis and Trevor Lewis
Lewiston MAINEiacs: Jonathan Bernier and MA-C
Windsor Spitfires: Andrei Loktionov (I know he has been traded, but he started the year in the org) and Nick Ebert

Care to guess which league our top scout hails from?

If you want to count people that have been traded but started here you could add Wayne Simmonds to the list for Owen Sound, Kurtis MacDermid as well. Brad Richardson played there too... All except for MacDermid played while Futa was the GM.

Also Thomas Hickey and Bud Holloway from the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Colten Teubert, and Jordan Weal from the Regina Pats.
Rich Clune and Kyle Clifford from the Barrie Colts.

Those with NBCSN, the UND-DU game is being broadcasted, can check out Forbort and Nick Shore.

Forbort looks very solid -- smart simple plays. He really needs to be in Manchester though -- forget that last year at UND. The type of game he plays won't improve much playing with amateurs. Shore looks like a pretty good playmaker. Entertaining game despite the bad goaltending.

He's showing a pretty good wrister from the point -- gets it thru and on net. But that's about it. Not playing on the pp.

It's telling who the coach puts on the ice with 50 seconds to go, defensive zone draw, opposing goalie pulled.... Nick Shore got the call for Denver. Solid.

If Forbort turned into the next Mitchell, I'd be ecstatic.

Through one for UND-Denver: Really liked N Shore (LAK), also liked Laleggia (EDM), Schmaltz (STL), Kristo & MacMillan (MTL).
Shore scored one goal that was a result of hard work!

Forbort is not another Drew Doughty guys, No one should expect the kid to put up great numbers.

His first priority is Defense. He also doesn't receive top PP minutes.

all the above. the kid is looking like the possible second coming of Mitchell, but with more range physically. still needs to work on gap control and first few steps to maintain contact with skaters. this has dramatically improved the past two years, but sometimes his reads are a second late and his recovery doesn't quite get him back in position.

i am hoping that LA keeps Willie on board as a consultant - coach. i think he would be a great coach to work with the young guys

Just because somebody lacks offense and has good size, doesnt mean he's the next Willy Mitchell.

Than there are 35 Willy's out there.

Maybe people who watch are actually, you know, basing that on how he plays the game?

Yep, but ultimately it will come down to how badly he wants it.

Did you even know who Willie Mitchell was when he broke into the league? He bounced around a few times and it took him some time to polish up his game and be considered among the best defensive dmen in the league. The same applies for Scuderi and the Kings' own Sean O'Donnell. They were all rough around the edges at first but through more experience they became stalwarts on defense.

I didn't say Forbort is the next Willie Mitchell, but if he is, the Kings have themselves a gem. You are still complaining about that pick? Have you even seen Forbort play a game? He skates very well, especially for a player with his size, and yes, like Mitchell, he knows how to use his stick effectively. Try watching him before being so judgmental and critical of him. You're just upset because he isn't a flashy player.

I think you confuse me with someone else regarding me being upset.

Yes during the lock out there were AHL and college games on the telly. I can tell you the most about the Texas Stars.

Willy Mitchell is a rare and special breed. He has a stick, few can play with. There are dozens of defensive prospects out there who are raw and rough around the edges. Exactly what you said. Forbort does not have much of an offensive game so he might be the next Mitchell. I think that's a bit far fetched. He might be the next Keaton Ellerby as well.

I probably did have you mistaken for another poster who rips on the Forbort pick every chance he gets, mainly due to Tarasenko being in the NHL now and Forbort still being in college.

While it is possible for him to be another Ellerby (who was a projected top 10 defenseman in his draft class), I see a difference in their games. Forbort seems more composed on the ice. Maybe not so much in last years WJC, but he's getting better. Highlights from last night:

Forbort's wrister lead to UND's second goal. Looked good walking the line on the blueline and getting his shot through a screen. My only concern with Forbort is him spending another season at UND. He needs to be in Manchester next season.
