Guys like Asham are easily replaceable... aka Mash, Ferierro... etc. Nash is extremely difficult to fill in for, and I feel that this move is because of that. I wish this kid well and that he brings his bread n butter up.

I like Boyle, but Halpern has been better. I thought he looked great against Ottawa, especially when he was put with Callahan and Pyatt.

Anyone else disappointed McIlrath didn't get called up?

I hope he does well. But this is getting desperate now.

I doubt Thomas would have been called up so soon if not for the rush of injuries. Perfect time for him to showcase his skills.

The problem is Haley is about as good as Bickel in offense in the NHL level.. meaning very, very bad.

How worried are you about his size? Doesn't seem to fit a team whose coach wants every player to grind.

He plays the point in Hartford, which is quiet effective considering his shot is strong and accurate. Helps to spread the defense, making it more difficult for them to collapse around the goalie.

No, not for any significant stretches.

I'm always worried about size, but he's a scrappy little bugger. It's funny watching him nail a guy several inches taller and 25 pounds heavier. When he hits, he drives through the opponent, he doesn't just shove.

To be honest, I'm worried about this hurting his confidence. We've seen what it did to him the last time. Hopefully he's older and more mature now. But I don't know if I'd have called him up this year. He just barely began to get his confidence up. I'd have waiting at least a few more weeks so that he gets used to the idea that he's an AHL star.

Don't get your hopes up everyone. Diminutive forward with skill and a good shot, Torts will play him for 2 minutes, then have him demoted to the AHL.
Thomas is MUCH tougher than Zuccarello. MZA was constantly on his butt. Thomas will put you on your butt.

Maybe the whole team should be just rookies: Kreider, Miller, Thomas, McIlrath, Hrivik, who else we've got? Oh yeah, Fasth and Lindberg at the end of the season. How about the coaching staff gets to train the newest rookie for a mere couple of weeks before the next rookie is called up?

Ziggy Palffy, if we are really lucky. But I see a lot of similarities. Both play bigger than their size, good skating ability, excellent shot. Maybe Cammalleri, if we are not as lucky, but I would take that kind of a career from Thomas.

If he hits you with his slapper where your body isn't protected, you'll get badly injured. His slapper is devastating. His wrist and snap shots are also very strong. His shooting has been on the NHL level for 3 years now. That part worries me least.

I don't see that happening off the bat. The kid will start in the bottom-6 plus he'll get PP time. He'll have to earn anything more than that. Too much pressure to immediately put someone on the first line.

Beacon, Where do you think he would line up? I am thinking 3rd line, he needs some big bodies around him to retrieve the puck and provide space. I just hope Torts does not put him on the 4th line.

Not yet. He will get a look when Nash is back and all are healthy on D I would think...

We (desperately)need points now
Torts will play safe with the roster on D for now

Everyone talks about how he's on the midget line, but Haley is only short and certainly not weak. He's a tough guy. Tessier is also pretty tough. He's not an enforcer, but he can throw and take a hit. It's not a weak line by any means.

I think he starts on the third line for the Rangers. That said, who cares? This is a Torts team, at any given moment, Boyle or Halpern can be on the first line and Gaborik or Richards could be on the third. Anyone can play on any line... and then 2 shifts later, everything will change again.

I will be sad if he is dealt. I rooted for this guy for a while, along with Yogan and St Croix. But if the return is worth it, so be it.

Point well taken about the line shuffling.
I am just worried Torts sees Thomas is not a "grinder" and staples his butt to the bench. He better know what he is getting.

Would expect something like this:

Pyatt - Richards - Callahan
Hagelin - Stepan - Gaborik
Boyle - Halpern - Mashinter
Krieder - Miller - Thomas

McD - Stralman
Stall - Girardi
Eminger/Bickel - Gilroy

Injured
Nash
Asham
Powe
MDZ
Sauer

Thomas gets a shot on PP
IMO dressing a pure Kid line is an interesting concept
Have them only get on the ice on faceoffs past center ice in the oppositions zone. Do not match up against their Top 6. Perfect time is on icings in opposition zone when home team cannot change players
Always play Top 4 defenders with them.
Have them play their game and be told to go into attack mode - Kreider drew 2 penalties last game

Interesting defensive pairing, Stralman ahead of Girardi?

We can't have THAT many rookies on the team at once. Miller and Kreider barely know the address of the MSG, now we are bringing up Thomas, and you want McIlrath too?

Asham may not play tonight again. Playing Bickel is playing 11 forwards. Mashinter provides no offense. Newbury provides no offense. The Rangers need offense.
