Page playoff (Mod: In the Olympics)

Consider the Page Playoff system.

1 vs 2 - winner advances to Gold Medal game.

3 vs 4 - winner plays loser of 1 vs 2.

discuss

Leave the playoffs the way they are. They are perfect.

Agreed. Best playoffs in North American sports. Only if the league expanded or there was a radical re-alignment would I be comfortable with tinkering.

I don't really understand the system being suggested in the OP either. I don't know why a loser of a series would go on to face somebody else. The playoffs aren't like international tournaments, final seeding is pretty irrelevant in the NHL.

Once you're in the playoffs, it's cup or bust.

I think an interesting idea would be to have the 1st seed in the West play the 8th seed in the East and so forth. Would make the outcomes harder to predict since the teams have not met each other (at least for this season).

Teams and TV would NEVER go for it. Too much travel and too many different start times for the same series. Non-Starter.

You must be a fan of an eastern team an accustomed to a single time zone coziness. Travel and start times are par for the course for Western conference teams.

Sorry, I should have put this thread in the international tournement section.

I don't think the page playoff would work for NHL playoffs, but it might work for the Olympics.
