I have seen a lot of posts where people say things like "I trust JD and Jarmo will make the right choice," then others will reply "Yeah I agree they will do the right thing." This is strange to me. I like having them as our front office pair, and they have mostly good resumes, but they also make mistakes. At this point no one knows how good/bad the Blue Jackets will be in five years - JD, Jarmo, and all of us included.

True, but the Jackets can't be worse than their current seeding at 30th in five years... (perhaps 32nd) ... they will either be the same or better... I suspect better.

So as long as they're better than 30th, you're OK with it?

(Obviously, I know you're not. But that's the implication.)

Two weeks ago we knew nothing about Jarmo. Now in Jarmo we trust?

two weeks ago i'd never heard of the guy...so i agree i won't be in the "In Jarmo, I Trust" crowd...I just hope it means we're finally on the right track...i'm fairly certain if I go back the mentality was "we can't be any worse than we were under Dougie Mac"

I think its more (at least for me) that We/I trust in JD to make the right move. And Knowing JD will be involved will take some relief off. Ive liked the moves hes made so far and has done and said what has needed to be said and done. Ultimately though its up to Jarmo.

But on the otherside this is the NHL and while Jarmo may not have NHL GM experience, he has a ton of experience around GM's and the NHL in general. And hopefully if he ever has a hard/major decision to make he'll go to JD.

I have no other options so in JD I trust.

In Jarmo, TBD.

In Richards, good luck to ya fella.

Both Kekalainen and Davidson have less front office experience than "inexperienced and over his head" Howson did was he was first hired here.

In short, I agree with your post.

Tippett may be available, even if the Coyotes don't move. He isn't under contract for next year. Wouldn't mind seeing that so you guys complete the trifecta.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

To get Tippett would be almost too good. But there will be teams bidding for his services hard if he comes available.

While I'm really glad to have two good hockey guys in JD and JK, I will wait for the results too. Hopefully, we'll see this team start to move forward. I'm excited to see what happens.

Granted, few of us new much of Jarmo prior to last week but his resume looks good, oh, sometimes one can get an impression from interviews; which I did this week. Jarmo seems to be more of a hockey guy than bean counter if you ask me, as for the seeding I like nothing less than the playoffs.... With some luck the Jackets will improve significantly next season.

Peter Laviolette might be on the block if the Flyers miss the playoffs....

I agree 100%. I trust JD.
JD hired Jarmo so he has that going for him, but let's see it play out. The most important thing for Jarmo is how he gets along with other GMs. Those guys have to trust and respect him enough to answer the phone when he calls.

I wonder if anyone has tried to send him any offers trying to low ball him?? In his interview it seems like he was going to take the next 2 or 3 weeks leading up to the deadline to really get to know both the NHL and AHL players in the system. So he seems to be doing his homework.

I think he's good coach but has sometimes gone overboard with he's linematching imo.

I approve of this move. Agree with Viqsi, bring back Kinger as well to develop the youths.

The problem was that after almost 6 seasons on the job he was still "in over his head".

In this pie in the sky situation, I'd prefer Tippett over both Laviolette and Ruff.

Just feels like a better fit with Columbus, the roster, and the direction at the moment.

Personally, I dunno, Moore seems to be progressing and several of the young d-men show real promise. But the youngsters up front still look like youngsters. Except maybe Dorsett.
I think this hits the nail on the head really. We've seen little to no teaching for our forwards. The scheming on the ice has been terrible. Decision making has been questionable (Brass is the worst center for FO % on the team and is worse than half the wings too). Richards has seemingly been as inconsistent as the team performance on the ice.

If there is one thing I expect JD to mandate down is to work hard and play hard every day and every night, win or lose.

That would be a godsend. I just can't believe something so good would happen to the jackets. On the other hand, how good is Tippett even at developing players? Turris and Mueller both failed pretty hard with him and his system (very good system coach), though Turris has now gone on to do quite well with Ottawa.

What about Paul Jerrad, Joey Mullen, or John Stevens?

This is true only if you accept Howson's years as an assistant GM at a massively unsuccessful franchise as being equal to JD's time having complete control as St. Louis rebuilt from the dregs to near the top in a few years. (Plus JK's time at St. Louis and Ottawa where he was having more success in the same role Howson was holding in Edmonton.)

Personally, I do not accept that equivalence.
