I'm only moving him right now if I know I'm getting RoR in a separate deal or I'm getting at least a legitimate #2C back.

Richards is having a bad start, but he isn't done at the ripe old age of 32. He's going to hit a hot streak and rip out 12 points in 7 games, and suddenly be a PPG payer and be untradeable. I have been unhappy with his play thus far, but the guy isn't done...

Richards will bounce back. Its not like he has an crappy pts total. A few good games and he is a pt a game again

If he continues to suck over this season and the next then they have the buy out

When the NYR signed Richards, it was with the intention of giving him as much upfront $$$ as possible. Neither side expects this contract to be honored for its duration. Richards will be bought out. It is just a matter of when. I had no idea we would be talking about this so soon, but there is no way Brad was gonna finish this deal. He and the NYR BOTH knew it.

With that said, I think Brad needs a day or two off. He is just ineffective right now. He may just need a mental break.

I am not sure the NYR can afford to give him a night off. But they should.

I don't care about his contract, he is a godsend for Toronto. People really need to understand that overpaying star players is not what ruins a lineup, it's overpaying 3rd liners.

JVR-Richards-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Frattin
Komarov-Bozak-Kulemin
Orr-McClement-McLaren

Looks a lot like a playoff team to me.
Grabovski, Percy, & 2013 1st for Richards & a 6th?

Nashville return of say Colin Wilson and a 3rd or 2nd rder would be ideal, from the Leafs I would say spin them Richards and Stepan for Komarov, 1st and Gardiner. The cash saved would help NYR to fill 3 desired acquisitions in ufa draft and get them in my opinion a top 12 pick in this draft.
Would do Richards for Wilson, 2nd & 3rd in 2013.
Way overpayment by NYR in that Leaf deal. Stepan isn't going anywhere.

Spends years looking for #1 center.

Wants to trade him months later.

Ah, the brilliance of some of my fellow Rangers fans.

The Rangers don't do that with their free agent signings. See Chris Drury, Scott Gomez, Wade Redden, etc. It wasn't that long ago they were getting on Gaborik's case as well. It's no surprise that they've grown sour on Brad Richards. With the contract he was given, it was going to happen at some point.

Habs are set at center now. (thank god). And Gainey is retired. (thank god).

NYR are stuck with this contract. He'll be 40 when it expires.

Will the Rangers take back salary? (I mean eat some of Richards salary cap hit...)

Could try out a wacky 3 way with Richards moving to Canucks, Luongo somewhere else and that team eating salary...

What do the Rangers need?

Wilson isn't for trade. And we don't have a 2nd this year

Do not want to deal Richards unless it's a guarantee that they'll be able to get Getzlaf as a UFA, and I really don't think Getzlaf is leaving Anaheim.

It's not just "big contract" players. It's been done with Boyle, Girardi, Staal, Del Zotto, and basically anyone else. In fact, there's a famous thread on the Rangers board where people seriously discuss the idea of trading Henrik Lundqvist because "Prince" Chad Johnson had a couple good games filling in. I know that this is the trade board but I strongly urge Rangers fans to sit and think about the crap they post before actually submitting it, because there's a good chance that, when offering a player to the entire NHL because of a bad month or two stretch, it's going to look incredibly stupid some time from now.

I don't think we have what NY wants. They are stacked at D and have good d prospects already.

Hornqvist, + 1st + something?

Spaling+ Blum/Ellis/Ekholm+ 1st?

Whatever it'll cost it'll be pretty steep for Nashville, and I'm sure NY could get a better offer then ours.

And then wonder why his value has plummeted when he recovers from his bad stretch.

That is intriguing. Fills 2 needs for the rangers. But leaves a big hole in 1C. On the other hand, frees up cap space.
Wow, good idea. Can't make up my mind on this one.

Edit: Well maybe not, seems like McIlrath and Petrovic have some bad blood.
McIlrath is just badass.
