I guarantee Rhys Adams has a better offensive game than his old man.

3rd overall picks aren't just for giving away, saying the price would be steep is an understatement, he's an unreal player, no doubt...for an unreasonable price

Seeing how our top 3 players have been knocked out with concussions in the last 3 years, the only players Shero and Lemieux better be bringing in are bodyguards. And if not complete goons, at least a few guys that actually have a pulse when it comes to playing physical.

I don't think it's that farfetched that we look to revamp our third line and get another sniper for Sid.

Bennett-Malkin-Neal

IF you're giving him a significant raise, it's not to put him on the 3rd line.

But what do I know
The only cap issues we'll have will be next year. The following season (when Letang and Malkin get raises) the cap will have gone up a good 4-5m (at least).

which of those injuries would have been prevented by a bodyguard? Hell, Malkin's wouldn't have been prevented by having a sniper watching his back. It was an accidental clean play. This wasn't even a big hit. It was just unfortunate.

Eric Godard definitely would have prevented Malkin's injury.

In case you missed my reply to another poster in the +/- thread who compared our lack of response to the lack of response by Boston to the Cooke/Savard hit:

You're exactly right. Boston didn't do anything immediately after that hit, and they were ridiculed by their fans and media for weeks after. Now they're loaded with guys that'll rip your head off if you **** around. They haven't had a problem since.

We didn't do anything after the Steckel or Tampa Bay hit on Sid. Our pacifist fans and owners chalked it up to being 'unfortunate'. We got weaker and smaller since then. And since then we've had Letang and now Geno knocked out with concussions. How coincidentally 'unfortunate'.

You mean like Colton Orr has become for the Maple Leafs this season?

LOL, and it was only a few games ago that many hailed Boychuk to be the answer to the LW problem... now, people are preaching for a goon with a pulse.

that reply is 100% irrelevant to what I said.

Goons do not prevent injuries during hockey plays. They may prevent cheap shots somewhat, but they don't prevent clean plays from going badly.

Must not have, they ripped some heads off and are now immune to injuries.

Doesn't matter when you have a circus freak like Chara on your team.

Toronto is currently 6th in the East, 2 pts behind us. they were terrible last year. What changed with them? They're now tough as hell to play against, the few legitmate players they have aren't getting run every game, and there's a whole lot of chemistry with them.

Do you really want to spend that on a natural center who might not work as a wing? Or go at Perry considering its more likely he leaves rather than Getzlaf?

http://www.capgeek.com/free-agents/?...F&fa_type_id=2

There's a list of players we could go for in the off-season. If we pull of the trade and we manage to keep our team under the cap and win more than one playoff round with that team, I will personally take my hat off to you

question. Do you honestly believe that the hit that injured Malkin would not have occurred if we had some more goons on the team? It wasn't someone taking a run. It wasn't a cheapshot. It was a textbook hockey play with an unfortunate result.

IMO we're going to unload some key assets on D and maybe even a Kunitz type, in order to get a huge upgrade. Just a question of to which team(s). You go through 3 years of these serious injuries to star players and the only conclusion you can draw after losing 3 first round playoffs is, you need more stars. Fill the bottom 6 with less expensive, home-grown players... and load 'em up on the Top 6 for as many years as you can keep em. Just expect you might only have one star around for 2 or 3 years, then you have to go get another one. Such is life under the Cap.
I think what you really were trying to infer was that this completely impossible solution is our only hope!

To Ducks: Evgeni Malkin and Tyler Kennedy
To Pens: Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry

Shero freaks out about having the success of the team tied into two players with concussion issues so he rolls the dice like never before. The Ducks throw away their Cup run for a guy that might play for them again this season. Getzlaf and Perry happily re-sign because they get to play on the same team as Sid like everyone else in the league does. The whole thing just makes too much sense

Obviously this is ludicrous, but I have to say this lineup would be pretty sick:

Bennett - Crosby - Neal
Kunitz - Getzlaf - Perry
Dupuis - Sutter - Jeffrey
Glass - Vitale - Adams

I suppose a goon would have blocked it, seeing as all injuries are prevented by tough guys.
