Wait so if he has 5 goals that puts him at 58 right?

The game is over he only needs one more to reach the record Stamkos holds of 58 goals.

its not as impressive if the level of play is well not that high. i mean erie has given up 12 goals.

defiantly skeptical to this translating over to the NHL

25-30 goal scorer if he can work on the rest of his game in the NHL

Eh, the league still counts Crosby's points even when he gets them against the Islanders. Amassing more points than usual against bad teams is just something good players and teams do.

Devils media people taking notice of Boucher's chance to break Stamkos's record.

NHLDevilsPR ‏@NHLDevilsPR
Boucher, whose 4g game matches a season high, added 2a for a season-best 6-pt outing. Boucher's Sarnia Sting beat Erie, 13-3 #NJDevils #OHL

Sherry Ross ‏@SherryDarlingNJ
Reid Boucher's next goal would tie the team record set by some guy named Steven Stamkos.

Sherry Ross ‏@SherryDarlingNJ
Steven Stamkos set the record in 61 games. Tomorrow night's game at Plymouth will be Boucher's 61st of the season

It's difficult not to be optimistic about Boucher. Or at the very least, it's hard not to cheer hard for him to succeed at all levels.

At worst, we can make him a PP specialist. Put him in the slot. Now you have (2) snipers on the ice, in Kovy and Boucher. Who does the PK key in on?

And I thought for sure going back was a good move. Didn't know Michigan was going to be a bad squad.

If this were his only big game this year your skepticism would have more merit.

Even highly drafted guys who score lots at the OHL level sometimes don't translate to the NHL. That's why I'm in the wait and see camp.

Rob Schremp scored a goal a game and 145 points at about the same age as Boucher, drafted in the first round, and he's out of the NHL at 26, as an example.

I agree we shouldn't be expecting the moon from Boucher, but his all-around game is already miles beyond Rob Schremp. Schremp was the very definition of a 1-dimensional player, and he was a TERRIBLE skater and soft as mashed potatoes. That's the kind of thing that makes a player "boom or bust" and unable to succeed unless it's on a scoring line with skilled players. A lot of reports say that Boucher's looked more well-rounded this year and that's a good sign for a player who might project as more of a complimentary forward.

Very few sure things in any sport, and hockey is no different.

But seeing a 4th rnd pick go on in subsequent seasons to break stamkos's scoring records? Legit cause for optimism.

Rob Schremp wasn't a sniper. He was a dangler who thought his junior dangles would work in the NHL.

If you have a good shot, you can make it in the NHL. The Devils are as good a team as any to develop the rest of his game.

I hate to sow seeds of doubt, but Schremp had an excellent shot, though he wasn't a shoot-first player by any means.

He'll need probably several years in the ahl first I suspect. Wouldn't expect him to start seeing NHL time for another couple years at least

On a side note, I'm a huge fan of Schremp and don't understand why he doesn't have an NHL job. He can handle at least 5 minutes a night which is more than some NHL 4th liners, and if the game goes to a shootout, you have a wizard.

Teams will keep faceoff, PK, PP, and fighting specialists, even if their game is awful in every other category (Steckel, Marc-Andre Bergeron, etc.) No idea why no one keeps a shootout specialist.

Schremp played a few games for Atlanta. He was pretty decent I thought. He wasn't a liability defensively and he was always a threat even though he didn't score much. I feel like he could still be a solid player as well

This kid is a machine.
But I have only 1 thing to say : sign Charles Sarault !
We have not a lot of offensive depth and always manager to find some gems as free agents. Why not trying him ? his chemistry with Boucher could be useful.

And from what I`ve seen, he plays a lot with Goldobin too.

Watched a game a month later and Merrill seemed to be operating at full speed again.

I know some are disappointed with the point production, but Michigan's using 4 forwards on their top PP unit with Jacob Trouba at the top of the umbrella. This has relagated Merrill to the 2nd PP unit with some subpar forwards.

Most of us are hoping he turns pro, if only so he can get accustomed to the pro schedule. At this rate, he would have played more games during his freshman year than his sophomore/junior years combined.
Thanks for the update!

He was expected to be a first line player when he could not skate or play defense. All he had was his offense and he got benched for it.
