Not sure why and I think we can get better for Eller.

1) Montreal can't really take on salary in a deal like this.

2) Montreal already has 2 inconsistent wingers with size.

equals a pass from Montreal.

never... Eller will be worth alot more than stafford.
this year Eller is starting to show his value and the more
games he plays the better hes getting. his progression
is increasing alot this year, considering with who he plays with
and the time hes getting, which is (11min per game).
If Eller develops like hes supposed to, which is looking like
he will because of how well he is playing.
he will be worth at least 2x more than stafford.
if Eller is leaving Montreal, We are getting a player with
the same potential at least. Bergevin isn't going to leave him
fly out of montreal unless he is getting something better
with more value in return.

Stafford is far more established than Eller, has multiple 50 type point seasons, works hard and has size. You can plug him in an offensive or checking role and he can excel. He is also locked up at an affordable rate. Acquiring him allows us to look at moving Bourque who has a similar cap hit (albeit 1M$ apart).

It's tempting until I ask myself, why would Buffalo want to trade a 6'2" winger who has scored 30 and 20 in the past?

gotta make a trade or two to turn things around. i don t think they'll be moving any part of their 1st line.
