Amazing, #1 caliber D man when he's on, disgusting bottom pairing when he's not playing with emotion and fire.

Overall play was better that period... a mental mistake by Schenn and poor coverage after the lost faceoff leads to the one goal defecit.

Bryz has started 18 games this season. More than any other goalie. He's bound to be tired and admitted that he was. Even though he gave up a bad goal today, he's made lots of very good saves. He's still playing better than he was last season. Homer needs to pick up a real backup so Bryz can rest.

Sure we were weak on back to backs, but the other night he was very weak when the rest of the team gave a great effort. Even this game I don't think he has been sharp.
Take it you didn't watch the Pittsburgh game the other night?

can't help but think that if we didn't get off to yet another slow start we wouldn't be losing this game right now.

Exactly. Year after year same old crap. Either a coaching problem or an inexperience problem. Maybe both?

Bryz is gassed. That's what the problem is. Laviolette knows he can't go to his backups because they couldn't win a game if their lives depended on it and he has no choice but to play Bryz so much. That's Holmgren's fault for his refusal to find a capable back up and consistently using organization retreads. .

Still on the Bryz thing, he is like the little girl with the curl. Yes he was outstanding in the Pens game and then followed it up with a clunker. I guess I'm saying he still does not inspire confidence. There are too many times he lets in the softies. Great goalies are a lot more consistant. Maybe Boosh should have started against Florida, but he didn't and Bryz owed us a better performance. We don't need a better backup, maybe we just need to use him more. Boosh has always been a great backup goalie and thats what he does best.

Gotta be a combination of the two. Other teams start off flat too, but no more than the Flyers.

We are the worst 1st period team in the league, giving up a league worst 22 goals in the first period. Columbus is in 2nd..... Strangely, ANA and STL are right there too.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm...=goalsByPeriod

Just to expand on this, we were 2nd worst last year too: http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm...=goalsByPeriod

2010-2011 though, we were 24th, much better. I think it's the kids to be honest after reading all this. http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm...=goalsByPeriod

slow starts with Richards and Carter, get rid of pretty much that entire "dry island" squad and we get,..... slow starts. no matter what combo of players we have had since Stevens was coach there has been slow starts and motivation problems.

Brendan Shanahan sighs deeply at all the tape he is going to have to review after the PeeWee Flyers bloody, gritty victory today. "A lot of meat got seasoned and chopped today." said one innocent bystander. "It took a lot of balls to gut out that W." said one buxom woman, who admitted to a brief fainting spell during the line brawl.

Sorry, we 100% need a better backup, period. There is no arguing around it! What could possibly make you think that Boucher and Leighton are quality backups?

We're playing game 20 and some teams are still at 14 and 15.

There is gonna be fatigue. Bottom line is we need a better back up and shame on Homer for thinking these 2 glorified AHL'ers can be trusted to go out there and win. Teams are relying on their back ups more than ever this season because of cramming 48 pounds of potatoes in a 25 pound bag.
