So you think the wild will just let Backstrom walk for nothing?
I'm not trying to be harsh but ...
You offered them nothing for their starter.
Yes, keep their starter and go as far as they can in the playoffs.
Your offer is worthless to them.
What good does MacArthur an UFA and Rynnas a minor league goaltender do for them?

building blocks towards the future...
They get a UFA winger that they need for a PO push. Rynnas gives them depth in net.
It is clear they wont be able to sign Backstrom considering their cap issues next year... So having said that they will have to roll Hackett anyways! Rynnas is an insurance policy on Harding.
because he is a UFA and they have Harding and Hackett that are NHL caliper goalies.
by signing Parise and Suter to that kind of term it's about the long haul and giving their young goalies a shot in a short season will pay dividends down the road.
doesn't matter, the yield they get for backstrom isn't enough to sell them on the fact they maybe a cup contender with him.
no team is dumb enough to sell their starting goalie if they are a legit playoff team with a chance at the cup. also i wouldn't say harding is a proven starter after seeing how he did vs the blackhawks a few weeks back. backstrom has been solid all his years in minny.

Calling them a cup contender is a joke
Backstom will walk for nothing then... there is no way they will be able to sign him... I think they will consider trading him instead of letting him walk for nothing.
Hackett is ready and will have to be their starter anyways next year.

They have 19 players under contract for next year and $10,924,466 in cap space.
Leafs have 13 players under contract for next year and $17,150,833 in cap space.
If the fact they have enough money to offer Parise and Suter $98 million each doesn't indicate they can afford to amnesty someone I'm not sure what they can do to show it?

Your one of those that just shoots off their pie hole without looking into things eh?
11m cap to sign 3 guys and you think thats an issue?
Minny is a joke to be considered a cup contender?, hrmmmmm.
1. They have to sign Hackett, Falk, Bouchard and Clutterbuck
2. They have 10.6M to do that
3. They are currently in 8th with a -3 goal differential! Not a cup contender...
so instead of blasting someone actually LOOK at the facts!
They have Dany Heatley with his 7.5 million cap hit making 5 mil and likely for a buyout. Thats 17.5 Mil cap space.
Its what, they're first 20 games of having a core of Koivu, Parise, Suter, Granlund and Brodin. IMO you add one more dman and thats a nice looking team. Heck if I was them I'd be calling Regier about Tyler Myers. They can afford him and he would look nice beside Suter, not to mention they have some prospects and picks that they could trade to get him.

Or Kuemper. Pretty sure he's passed Hackett in the depth chart or it's very close. Looked really good in his 2 NHL starts this season
I think people are really really overreacting to last nights lose.
The Leafs remain one of the youngest teams in the league and their two young goalies both have a .929 save % on the season. I don't see how losing a one goal game to hot team means they should now be scouring the league for players to revamp the lineup.
Never thought I'd say this, but I'd like to see kulemin traded. He's a black hole out there, he never has been very good at puck handling but he used to be very good at protecting the puck. He also seems to already have lost at least a full step.

I'd really want to see a Harrington or Maata + 1st type deal.

While ur at it send Gunnarsson packing too! The guy was the worst D-man on the ice last night and we need to move him anyways to bring up Gardiner.
With Gunnarsson I'd rather just sit him until he's back to 100%. Playing him while hurt isn't helping anyone right now. Trading him now would be stupid since you aren't going to get his true value while hurt and frankly he's going to be useful to the team going forward. There are other guys you can move.
It's kind of silly to move a guy who isn't playing at 100% in order to call up and play a guy who also may not be playing at 100%. Are we going to talk about trading Gardiner next if he isn't completely back to his old self yet?
We do need to move some bodies, but let's make sure we move the right ones.
