Push then. That wiff by Lolski was shockingly bad.

Crabb is another non-factor I noticed today. Would have to think there is someone in Hershey that can contribute more. And seeing Chimera live he has lost a step. Something seems off with him besides his usual off-sides/stone hands BS.

Besides OVs show Fehr once again stood out to me today. The guy is playing with a lot of hustle and confidence. His shorty was a prime example. Really glad to see the guy play without injury issues.

I'm pretty sure a whole lot of people could dispute that statement. Regardless Ribeiro has had a fantastic season so far...

The great thing about the powerplay is its simplicity. And it boils down this this:

Make some space around Ovi so he can shoot.

Agreed. Resigning him has to be a priority. I don't know what our chances of turning this season around are but I'd like to think that WHEN we get our stuff together he will be key.

How much are you willing to blow on Ribeiro? $5.5 per for 4 years, or trade him for a prospect and a 1st maybe if he continues to perform at a high production level?

Random thoughts.

Backstrom has high PK load. More PK specialists with FO skills or just HH21BL being back could help Backstrom's offense too probably.

Crabb isn't nobody. He has good defensive effectiveness (stats-wise). When he is on the ice (usually with Hendricks and Beagle) Caps' opponents don't score.

Being in Toronto Crabb scored more but I wouldn't complain much so far. He isn't the problem I believe.

Depends if another high-priced forward is able to be moved out. Otherwise, their won't be any flexibility to do something else.

See blowing money is more like extending a guy who can't stay healthy and hasn't played to his potential in 3 years. Paying Ribeiro is better described as committing.

If you think Ribeiro is the missing piece I guess you could call it committing. He's on the wrong side of 33 already. Do you really want to be paying this guy $5.5 mil when he's 37?

The age is the only issue for me. I'd rather committ big $$ to a little younger guy who is a better leader type.

I would hope that they already thought about that prior to trading for him. The other issue besides age is his FO ability but, again, they traded for him. They need to follow through with the move and keep him around unless his demands are outrageous or he just wants to go to market.

I'd prefer three years but if it absolutely took four years I'd probably go with it. The futures he'd net could maybe eventually help them trade for a younger 2C I guess but those aren't readily available. As far as Getzlaf/Weiss go they'd both command more term.

If they need more flexibility then buyout Schultz and trade Ward. Teams that have their **** together move more expendable pieces to keep rarer, more essential pieces.

i think we've seen that a good 2c that can manage well as you 1c is hard to find.
trade him for a late first round pick who might be an nhl player in 3 years and a prospect who might be a mid range rookie next season really doesnt do anything to make the caps better.

if the draft isnt that good in the end the pick is a waste and a prospect might be a tomas fleischmann but might as easily be an oskar osala or teddy ruth.

i'd rather keep him

Hardly, once his contract is up he can be signed to play the last few games next year and the playoffs.

No doubt he will get the rookie max which is about $4 million.

If Ribeiro finishes this season above a PPG he'll probably be looking at 6 to 7 years somewhere.

Uh, Brad Richards? Travis Zajac? Given the competition for centers out there it's very possible that some team will give him a semi-retirement contract til he's 39 or so, especially if it keeps the cap hit down.

I feel like NHL GMs value him a good deal more than hf posters. Centaurs with his consistency and production get paid.

A modest projection, bringing Ribeiro back at $5.5M:

FORWARDS
Brooks Laich ($4.500m) / Mike Ribeiro ($5.500m) / Alex Ovechkin ($9.538m)
Marcus Johansson ($0.851m) / Nicklas Backstrom ($6.700m) / Troy Brouwer ($3.667m)
Joel Ward ($3.000m) / Mathieu Perreault ($1.050m) / Filip Forsberg ($1.492m)
Matt Hendricks ($0.825m) / Jay Beagle ($0.900m) / Eric Fehr ($0.600m)
Jason Chimera ($1.750m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Karl Alzner ($3.000m) / Mike Green ($6.083m)
John Erskine ($1.500m) / John Carlson ($3.967m)
Dmitry Orlov ($0.900m) / Tomas Kundratek ($0.660m)
Jeff Schultz ($2.750m) /
GOALTENDERS
Michal Neuvirth ($1.500m)
Braden Holtby ($1.500m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,232,295; BONUSES: $860,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,927,705

Somehow ship out Chimera and Schultz and you've got $7.5M to play with 2 rosters spots. One would have to be the LD. The other would likely be a scoring winger.

He won't get 6-7 years but I could see someone giving him 5 if he continues at over a PPG.

I'm not sold yet. He can't win a faceoff to save his life. Tough to have your top 2 C's be horrible on the dot.

It's far tougher to have Johansson as your 2c.

Not sure why that's relevant to the Ribiero discussion unless you're suggesting Mojo would suddenly be the 2C, but sure...

Well,

Whatever #9 is, or will be worth... history has shown us that the way to neutralize him is for George to give him a reward.

Reminds me...Tip: If anyone knows any beer leaguers in BC that are lookin for a way to neutralize Trevor Linden... it's easy; just put him in a Caps jersey. Works every time!

Good game today...patience and sticking to the system worked! AO on his way to his 20-30.

Debbies playing the backup didn't hurt, either.

Bring on Carolina!
