What lineup do you guys want to see when Laich and Johansson are back? I'd like to see:

Laich-Ribeiro-Ovechkin
Johansson-Backstrom-Brouwer
Fehr-Perreault-Ward
Chimera-Beagle-Hendricks

Or

Laich-Ribeiro-Ovechkin
Fehr-Backstrom-Brouwer
Chimera-Perreault-Ward
Hendricks-Beagle-Crabb

(trade Mojo for a top 4 defenseman)

I'll go with #2, IF the Caps are in the playoff hunt,....if not then Poti, Hamrlik, Chimera,Mojo, Neuvirth,Schultz, and Ribeiro (if the Caps can't sign him to a 3 yr deal max) should be dealt.
If McPhee can get anything for Wolski or Crabb then they should obviously be dealt too.

PS "dumpster dive" Fehr should be signed!

I would like to see if MoJo has chemistry with Ribeiro, he's yet to play with him...

MoJo will still have the same bad turnovers and poor decision making no matter who is lineup is. His hands and decisions have been on par with WW, and Chimera. Not good company for comparisons at the moment.

Works for me!

@FriedgeHNIC East 1 would be CAR/CBJ/NYI/NYR/NJ/PHI/PIT/WAS. East 2 would be BOS/BUF/DET/FLA/MTL/OTT/TB/TOR

Not that there is really any huge way to make it all that much better but that is a horrible travel schedule for the two Florida teams.

They will have some effect but I don't foresee a whole slew of amnesty buyouts and some of the ones that do happen I bet aren't going to really be big money guys but more guys with some term who just aren't fitting in or on guys teams need to ditch just to be able to get under the cap not move to make room to add other big money guys.

UGH. Stop.

I already said this before. In terms of most points vs the Atlantic including Atlantic teams who have an extra 4 games, the Caps were 2nd 08-09 and tied 1st in 09-10, 2nd in 10-11.

Knowing that the lockout would occur and the cap would lower after this year, other teams paid for FAs for this year, and therefore they are cap-strapped next year, whereas we could be more flexible. Hammer, Poti, Erskine, off the books. We would just have to re-up Hendricks, Alzner, Kundratek, Mojo, and GKs. We could probably get Ribs if he wants to come back(if or if we don't trade him at the TDL) for 3 years, $14-16 million. This would still give us a chance to sign a top 6 wing after the 2012-13 season and bring over Forsberg if he is deemed ready.
And the teams defense would be even worse than it is now (hard to do, but true story). We'd have "Grizzled Vets" Mike Green and Jeff Schultz... and a bunch of kids (Alzner, Carlson, Orlov, Kundratek, Schilling). Maybe sprinkle in Jack Hillen to really glue it all together. 8 deep for sure.

All in front of vet G's in Neuvirth and Holtby.

I'm sure that plan will work out well.

Grizzled...or beaten down? Nuevie won't see a start in a month if Holtby's current trend continues

Ancient history.

How about last year.....and the 1-7-1 this year against teams in the top 8?

Your sarcasm meter must be broken.

An entire D corp with Mike Green as the elder statesman....followed by Jeff Schultz. Zero chance to win anything.

Zero.

What gets me is that GMGM didn't even have to get a Pronger-type.

Someone like Scuderi, Mitchell, Robidas, Zidlicky, Lydman, or Seidenberg would have done wonders for this team, and they're all in the Hamrlik price range. Instead, the Caps are blowing $9M on Schultz, Poti, and Hamrlik.

Yeah but they are hardly doing less than the 3rd highest cap allotment on the team, Mr. Unused Cap Space...

And $6 million on Green who should never have been extended. What hurts worst with him is not that we're paying him to sit, but that we're paying him instead of a real first pairing dman.

Schultz/Poti/Hamrlik - $9 million
Mike IR Green - $6.1 million
Unused cap space - $6.3 million

Chicago and Montreal pay their entire D corp about what we pay for that crap.

Who are these mythical 1st pairing guys we would have instead of Green?

I'd consider moving Green when we have a LEGIT top D to step into his spot. Doing it before that would be foolish. The rest is rehashed McPhee history...pure genius he is.

I disagree. We can live without a true #1 D. Once Carlson gets it together, Alzner - Carson is a decent enough 1st pairing, provided there is a solid 2nd pairing behind it.

Green's groin is never going to be 100%. For that reason, and that reason only, he has to go in the off-season.

Carlson "getting it together" is far from a forgone conclusion. He's looked worse than ever this year, but by all means, let's just get worse and worse as a team. I guess last place is last place.

Who cares if they don't exist? They still shouldn't be paying 6 million to a guy who never plays. And even worse lying to themselves that they don't need to be looking for a top guy because they already have one.

Yeah I dont have much to add to this discussion. Caps' personnel on defense, at current salaries, doesn't make sense. Poti's -- because his contract made no sense even at signing. Schultz -- because his ankles snap in playoffs. Green -- because he's never performed like a 6m man in playoffs, even leaving out injury concerns. Hamrlik I normally don't have a problem with, but he is getting up there in age, so who knows what playoffs will bring.
