Dark Horse of 06-07

With the last two seasons we've had, the NHL seems to be going into a new direction where just about any team can nab a championship. Calgary/Tampa Bay in 04 when neither had made the playoffs the year before. This year with Carolina/Edmonton who hadn't made the playoffs either.

I know this is a crapshoot, but which team(s) could pull off the same kind of surprises this year?

My shots for surprise teams of 06-07: Pittsburg and Vancouver.

realistically, Atlanta I could see wreaking some havoc if given the chance, Minnesota maybe to a lesser extent as well. Depends what kind of Fernandez we will see this year.

Leafs or Bruins.

You only need to miss the playoffs season the previous season, is that correct ?

Hummm... St-Louis could be a nice surprise. I think they could make the playoffs and maybe reach the 2nd round... But, everyone was saying the same thing for Pittsburgh last year and... they did what they did... BTW, I don't care if i'm getting wrong.

Atlanta gets picked every year - I consider them overrated as opposed to darkhorses.

Name their offensive centers - name the players on their third and fourth lines - name their defencemen - without looking it up.

If Hossa and Kovalchuk were great leaders known for pulling teams up by the bootstraps perhaps they'd be in the running, but I don't see it happening, especially with that questionable supporting cast. There is little in the system ready to contribute this season - Atlanta fan is banking on Alex Bourret and/or Bryan Little making the team and contributing.
