I felt actually that it was a HUGE detriment to his games lately, even on the PP. He's been beaten badly multiple times at 5v5, and in the last game against the Islanders I remember a time on the PP where the puck exited the zone about 2 meters from him because he couldn't skate to stop it, ANY other d-man in the team would've caught that puck.

He looks at times like he's not even trying to get to places anymore because he has a hard time skating there. Skating just looks like a serious effort, and I think it's affecting his overall play a lot, and it worsened significantly as the season progressed. There's a reason why he was so efficient in the beginning of the season and it decreased gradually, it's not because he lost his brain power...

Slowest ? Maybe a tie between Armstrong and Markov ?
Yeah, I think of slowness in terms of lack of quickness, and not so much speed. So, I vote Armstrong, because I don't see him as quick in terms of feet, stick or even reacting to the play.

Armstrong no doubt. He looks like he's carrying a piano on his back every time he tries to back check.

From what I've seen the past weeks or so is Markov being our slowest player outside of maybe Kaberle except Kabe isn't hurting us from the pressbox. I dunno if he's out of gas already or if his legs just aren't what they once we're but I've witnessed a number of times Markov losing the one on one foot races out there and now that he's not putting up the points he was at the beginning of the year it is a little concerning. Although he is known to play well in the playoffs is he not? Hopefully he'll bounce back

I was very hesitant between Armstrong and Markov, and finally I decide to vote for Markov. In this season, I've seen many times that an opponent's forward has outskated Markov. I find that Markov's speed has regressed considerably this season. In the past, Markov wasn't a fast skater, but his slowness wasn't as apparent as now. I'm a bit afraid that he'll get worse next year.

Maybe he just had a few bad games, He had some great games to start the season which helped us get off to such a good start. Players have lapses and others need to step up, thats normal. I hope he stays healthy, we are a much better team with him in the lineup.

To be honest he looks like he might be turning into more of a pp specialist as his skating really does look terrible.

I agree that Desharnais is not one of the slowest players but top 3 in terms of speed? I don't think so.

If this is the case maybe we will see MT decrease his ice time, PK is more than capable, maybe 15-18 minutes would be more suited to the new old Markov.

Unlike Kaberle, Markov still seems to be a net positive defensively, but he's not a first pairing guy 5 on 5 anymore, and if anything has become something of a stay at home player on even strength.

It's only affecting him on turnovers when he has to turn around quickly and gets beaten by a faster forward. In his own zone, or when the Canadiens don't give a turnover so he has time to skate back, it's really not so bad.

Yes, his skating seems to get worse every game. I can't imagine that
he's just getting tired. I fear we will soon hear that he has either knee, groin,
or maybe back problems. If he can play through them okay. But he seems to
be getting worse, and maybe he should play less minutes for a while. Subban
is getting stronger, and can play big minutes if need be.

My vision is not what it used to be but he looked fine to me tonight. He never was a speedster but he was always smart, also it's not just the big plays that win hockey games, it's the intangibles that come with talent. Players have different levels of ability, some are coached to learn it and some just naturally have it. We sure missed the guy for way to long and I maintain the belief that we are a much better team with him even if his legs are a little slower.

Lol I'm surprised only me and some other guy voted for White... I'm not surprised that Armstrong and Markov are the two leaders in the poll, Armstrong doesn't have a flashy style of skating which makes him look really slow but White is still slower imo. Markov has lost a lot of speed from sitting in the last 2 and a half years and having his knee reconstructed twice. As for those saying it's Moen, you guys have to pay more attention to the games... Moen has tremendous top speed for a guy of his role and his size, he surprises a lot of defenseman by rushing down the wing after dumping it in the corner. It's not Chimera speed but it's pretty damn fast.

Excellent post!!!

The 26 people who have thus far voted for Moen and Desharnais have absolutely no ability to judge a player's skating. Moen has well above average speed and Desharnais as above average speed.

Armstrong, Markov and White are easily the 3 slowest players on the team.....that is a fact.

Yes putting down other posters and pumping own tires is how you win an argument.

How am I devaluing other opinions? I wrote facts in my other post. Isn't it a fact that Markov has been injured in the last 2 and a half years and this year he's been the reason behind a lot of odd man rushes because he can't always keep up with other players? It's a fact that many people (like Whitesnake who's a great poster on this board nonetheless) questionned White's future as a prospect because his skating would hold him back. He's done wonders in that aspect but he's still relatively slow for a guy of his size. Armstrong doesn't have the most flamboyant style of skating like I mentioned earlier, because of it's awkwardness it can have the tendency of making him look slow but how many odd man rushes or breakaways did he take part of so far this year? A lot for our ''slowest'' player. As for Moen, his top speed is underrated by not only defenseman in the NHL who think no way can this guy beat me with his speed but also by posters on these boards it seems. He draws a lot of penalty by surprising defenseman with his speed once he dumps and leave them no other option than just taking a penalty for holding or interference. He's done it 2-3 times already this season.

Here's probably the best examples I can give you of his speed:
This one is the dump play I've been talking about

So yeah no way in hell he's our slowest player.
