Someone brought it up in the Trade Forum ... but I agree they should probably just sign Brett Clark. He's playing well in the AHL right now for OKC with 9 assists in 10 games, and he'd probably never play for Dallas.

I wish they'd keep Wrenn as the 7th maybe, but it would be more beneficial for him personally to go back to Alaska. Although ... Sloan isn't playing that well .... he could play in place of Sloan.
He's been awful this season for Montreal. I've seen plenty of Habs games, he hasn't looked good in the few that he's played.
Kaberle's been scratched for all but 6 games this season and even then, he's played <10 min ave TOI. I smell a compliance buyout over the summer and no, we shouldn't go anywhere near him.
The thread about Ryder to Pittsburgh on the Trade Forum got me wondering what you all expect in return for Ryder. I'm trying to be realistic and I understand Shero in particular doesn't tend to give up a lot for deadline rentals but thinking across the league what teams could use a scoring winger/help on the PP and what are you realistically hoping to see?
We could definitely get more than a 2nd. Decent prospect + 2nd would be the starting point. Would prefer a late 1st rounder from a playoff contending team.
I don't see any reason why a 1st isn't realistic. Ryder will be the top goalscorer available from what I can tell.
Most expected a 1st for Ribeiro, and that didn't happen. I don't think it's impossible, but 2013 is being touted as another deep draft so teams will be reluctant to move those top picks.
If they get the same return as Ribeiro, it will be a big win considering he's just a rental and the Caps got a full year with Ribs.
My guess would be they won't get a prospect as close to the NHL as they did with Cody Eakin.

If it's the right contract, I wouldn't mind Ryder coming back. I imagine GM Joe feels the same way, but it probably plays out like the Souray negotiations. They really liked the player, but they believe in their young guys and won't give up big term.
He's going to be 33 years old, and IMO his agent won't allow him to settle for a 2 year deal. Not many teams are willing to give 35+ year old players multi-year deals. When they do, it's typically no more than 2 years. The player and agent gambled on a 2 year contract last time, and it seems to be paying off in a big way. My guess is Ryder and his representation seek a 4 year deal, and Dallas won't be willing to go there. Unfortunately, there's almost always someone else willing to do it.
The major hitch in this equation is the cap going down. You'd think teams would be conservative this summer, but that almost never happens. Plus, amnesty buyouts have the potential to create significant cap space.
While is poor play is brought up, a big reason to consider the buyout is the recapture rule that punishes these contracts. If they don't buy him out, and he retires, it will have a major negative impact on the Rags future cap. There's no reason to think this team won't continue to spend to the cap so they can't really afford that punishment.
Long story short .... would you welcome him back to Dallas?
If he gets bought out, he'll sign another monster contract IMO ... just not as silly. You're probably talking somewhere between $5 and $6 million. I like Roy ... but I'd take Richie back in a heart beat.
Ultimately ... I'd be surprised if the Rags bought him out. Even if they do, it's reasonable to assume, should things go GM Joe's way, Roy will already be under contract with Dallas at that time.

Pretty different situations. The deadline isn't the same climate as the draft. And Eakin + 2nd is basically equivalent to a mid-late 1st. Ryder also doesn't have Ribs' baggage.
Didn't GMJN have a thing for Eakin too, or something?
Not complaining about that trade at all, just saying I remember seeing somewhere he really wanted Eakin and putting 2 and 2 together, we took a lower pick to get him.
How is that a certain thing? I know he's probably not coming back, but he said he wasn't going to sign without an owner ... and there was absolutely no way Dallas could match the money NY was throwing down.
