I'd be thrilled to death if Catenacci becomes a NHL regular, let alone a player approaching the ilk of Helm.
I like the comparison... and i would also be thrilled

Who knew there was a chat room for Buffalo Sabres prospects?

Victoria Royals forward Logan Nelson, a 2012 fifth-round draft pick of the NHL club, sometimes goes on it to join the cross-talk. Asked if the firing this week of Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff was much discussed, Nelson pointed out the often-harsh bottom-line nature of hockey at this level: Ruff is now irrelevant to the prospects since he won’t be there if any make the jump to join the organization.

What matters is the here and now. For Nelson, that’s to keep improving at the Western Hockey League level with the next chance being tonight and Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

The native of Minnesota has been back only three games after missing 22 consecutive following a lower-body injury Dec. 28 that put him on crutches. He has been part of the Royals’ evolving injury situation.

Nelson and goaltender Patrik Polivka, who missed the last two games because of a lower-body tweak, were going full speed in practice Thursday, while captain Tyler Stahl and leading-scorer Alex Gogolev (both lower body) did not skate and likely will not play this weekend. Forward Trent Lofthouse skated but is likely also out against the Rockets.

Seems like the kid really knows how to turn up his game a notch when it matters most. We could sure use a player or 2 like that. Hopefully it translates to the next level.

Since Assat won again today 4-0, I imagine that the chances are diminishing that he plays in Rochester at the end of the year. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I guess it's good that he could get a chance to play in the playoffs in a top professional league, but it's bad since we won't get to see him play up the highway this season. We also won't be able to see how his game translates to North America.

Dan Cat 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points tonight against Saginaw Spirit in a 6-3 win. Also has 110 PM on the season and stands up for his team mates at every opportunity. Guy is going to be a great player for us, (Someone Jame will love, ) he is a great example on how to let a prospect develop over time...Something they should have done with Grigorenko. =/

Andrey Makarov won his fifteenth straight game tonight -- Saskatoon defeated Moose Jaw 7-1 -- and since returning from the WJC, he's 17-3-0-2 with a .939 SV%, 1.98 GAA and two shutouts.

Saskatoon as a team is on a tear. 15 in a row, that's impressive.

Armia just scored the GWG in OT, PP goal, wrister from the dot. Ässät won 1-0. Armia went one game without points, against Lukko, but even so Ässät won 0-4. Ässät have now won 11 games straight, two of which have been OT wins (in a league where regulation win = 3pts)

EDIT: The goal was awarded after the game to Savinainen, who apparently tipped it in in front. Armia got the assist

EDIT: The goal from Tuesday, at 0:37, note the patience Armia has

Linus Ullmark didn't even get the start for Modo home against the the leagues worst team (in pretty much all categories), Rögle tonight. It wasn't a totally unimportant game, but Linus hasn't been bad and in my opinion should've get the start.

Only three games remain of the regular season in SEL before Modo is going to playoffs. Ullmark probably won't play more this season, unless 1st goalie Bernhard Starkbaum play really bad and gets pulled.

Great shot. How does he respond to more pressure on the puck though? Like say the guy on his right challenges him more, would he be able to get away or make a pass to the guy at the point? Just curious because a lot of this team sucks at dealing with tough defense and turns the puck over as a result

Apparently I was wrong. Linus Ullmark is in net for Modo against Brynäs tonight. It's a real important game for Brynäs, last season's champions, who struggles and is about to miss playoffs. Modo is already in for playoffs though.

Completely depends on what Armia shows up. Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde. When he's "on" he does whatever the hell he wants with the puck and the defender. When he's "off" the result is most likely a 2-on-1 or worse heading the other way

Looked to be a 4-on-3 PP. Not sure one of the three defenders would be challenging too much.
_____________

Armia now on his best goals/game and pts/game rate in his SM-liiga career.

The thing I like about Armia is, he shows up in big games. He also plays better against tougher competition from what I've heard.

I think this hot streak he is on right now is huge for his development. He's learning to be a player that can carry a team on his back. He can be a huge difference maker if he reaches his potential. I have extremely high hopes for him, and I pray I'm not disappointed.

Linus Ullmark made 22 saves for Modo in a 1-3 loss away against Brynäs. Two of the goals were scored by Elias Lindholm, who probably will be a top 10-draft this year.

Andrey Makarov stopped 41 shots and denied all five attempts in the shootout as Saskatoon edged Calgary 3-2. The win is Makarov's 17th in a row, marking the longest unbeaten streak for a Sabres goaltending prospect since Ryan Miller went 19-0-3 in 2000-01 with the Michigan State Spartans. After the game, the Saskatoon staff lauded Makarov for being the club's top player throughout the hot stretch. The Blades hope to continue their momentum Friday when they host Brandon.

Andrey Makarov named as the Blades player of the month for February this morning.

http://saskatoonblades.com/article/m...er-in-february

Quote:
Makarov was the Blades rock during the team's undefeated month, racking up an impressive 15 wins in the team's 15 games. His secondary stats were also extremely impressive as the Buffalo Sabres prospect posted a 1.72 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. Makarov also put up a pair of shutouts in the month as he now holds the Blades single-season franchise record for shutouts with 7 and is also now the all-time overall franchise leader in shutouts with 9.

It's been quite the year for the Russian goaltender as he also continues to climb the charts when comparing him to the other top goalies in the league. Makarov is now the current WHL leader in wins with 34, sits tied for 1st with his 7 shutouts, is 4th overall with a .924 save percentage, is ranked 5th with a 2.40 goals against average and is 3rd in the league with 1530 saves in 2012-13.

Today is the first day teams can sign players to new contracts (non-extensions) that begin in 2013-14, which means it's draftee/free agent signing season.
They have to decide on Lepkowski and Jacobs this year (by 6/1) and can move Austin and Nelson onto pro if they choose, as they are 93's.
NCAA free agents will be on the table after next weekend when the regular season ends, while CHL guys are already up for grabs.

Let's just hope they make some better evaluations and don't sign more guys that are barely ECHL level (Boychuk, Lagacé, Parker, Szydlowski)..
