Would Ott do this deal?

Smyth, Ferguson, Laraque and Philly's 1st for Havlat and Rachunek.

Ferguson is just in the deal to cover the short term while Volcehnkov is injured. Laraque gives thme an answer to Brashear and Smyth gives them the gritty left winger they need.

Any thoughts?

Ottawa needs a better defenseman in return.

Smyth, Smith, Laraque for Havlat, Rachunek and ******* Child (Schastlivy)

PS. I'm not advocating any Ottawa trade, i think they should probably stand pat, but what the hey.

PS. I'm not advocating any Ottawa trade, i think they should probably stand pat, but what the hey.

You would have to exchange Schastlivy for a much better player how about emery

Smyth, Smith and Laraque and philly's 1st for Havlat, Rachunek, and Emery.

Loose logic, but that's pretty much what it comes down to.

Ottawa will not trade Emery, he's considered the future #1 (and the only one in the organization)

The objective from an EDM standpoint with this deal was to strengthen the D not weaken it. adding Rachunek and taking away Smith weakens us overall. Schastlivy is an ok player but he doesn't stand out enough for us to add smith to the deal.

How about this instead. Smyth, Smith, Philly's 1st and Laraque for Spezza and Rachunek.

Dude...Spezza was in that offer...you sure you'd say yes? I woudn't move Spezza for anything right now...but that's just me.

Smyth for Havlat is essentially what this thing boils down to. forget the Dmen.

The question is do we part with Smyth for Havlat? Where would havlat fit in? #2 RW behind Hemsky

or #1 RW?

Sure...we need Smyth type of player badly...VERY BADLY...but do we sacrifice one of the best up and coming players in the league for him?

If I had to move Havlat...I'd rather have Morrow than Smyth right now...but that's just me.

Yeah, Spets is a lot to give up but I'd trade him for Smyth, Laraque, and a first, given that Smith for Rachunek is a level trade (in the short term).

Smoke could move back to center and the Sens could play something like

Schaefer-White-Alfredsson
Smyth-Smolinski-Hossa
Havlat-Bonk-Laraque
Vermette-Van Allen-Neil

Dunno if it's just me and I'm being a bit of a Spezza-homer, but the only players in the league that I'd include spezza in a trade for are the likes of Kovalchuk, Thornton, etc...

Same sentiments here..the only way i trade spezza is if Philly's first turns out be Ovechkin ( and there's no way thats gonna happen)

So....no to the deal.
