I'm okay with this. I really thought it would be a 5-min major. It was a retaliation hit, the guys on the bench were probably pretty annoyed with MacDonagh who was playing with a bit of an edge that night--not trying to excuse the hit.

We'll see. I expect 2 games.

Never suspended once. Granted, the first one was international. If I wanted to, I could find a whole bunch of hits where players leave their feet after initial contact.[/QUOTE]
I'll show you Lucic leaving the ice before a hit and not get a penalty.
At 36 seconds you can see Lucic's skates both left the ice in a leaping motion luckily Van Ryn did not get injured. This is leaving the ice before a hit and Pacioretty did not do that.

Two ways of judging it. Relative to other hits, not suspension worthy. But if you care about the future of the game, then these kind of hits need to be banned.

I only agree with that if it's the same for every team and every player.

Do Habs players have history with Shanahan's wife or something?

Chara almost decapitates Pacioretty: broken neck, loss of consciousness, severe concussion, nothing.
Grabovski bites Pacioretty: nothing.
Luke Schenn boards Gallagher: concussion, nothing.
Andrew Ference shows the middle finger at the crowd: no fine.
Andrew Ference hits Halpern in the head: concussion, nothing.
And many more that I forgot.

**** the NHL if they suspend Pac.

Have you not learned the Bruins are the cleanist team in the league. All they do is deny any dirty deeds and they get away with it. The league is a ****ing joke.

Didn't he tweet negatively about Habs fans last year too? It seems I had read something to that effect. Maybe I'm wrong.

Just insane that there is even going to be a "hearing".

Shanahan.... you're becoming a joke!
I completely agree, This league has the credibility of the WWE.

Yeah...the same idiot who claimed Chara had no history when in fact Chara had been suspended once before.

When you have the owner of the Bruins overseeing the show....theres going to be some corruption. But you wouldn't expect it to be so obvious as it is.

Didnt see the hit but read on tsn that Patches was suspended once before for 3 games for a hit on Letang so i'm guessing he'll get 5 games since he's a repeat offender

Watched the hit on TSN its a 5 gamer..

Not trolling just giving my look on the hit it.

Too true. The truth is that I lost all respect for or confidence in Shanahan after the Chara incident. Frankly, while I hate to see Patches suspended, Shanahan's decisions mean nothing to me now. He has lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned. I really don't care what he does as his decisions have no meaning or significance in my world. Sad really, but that's what I think of him.

That was the dumbest excuse ever. If I was the head disciplinarian of the league I would have gave him a fine for that but after hearing that lame excuse I think I would have upgraded it to a suspension for him thinking I'm stupid enough to believe that.

But maybe that's what it takes to avoid suspensions, stupid excuses? Just like everyone was saying "if the stanchion was not there, Pacioretty doesn't get injured on the play", maybe Marc Bergevin could come out and defend his player "if the boards were not there, McDonagh doesn't suffer a concussion". Call it a magnificent hockey play too. Then when Max Pacioretty has his hearing he could say hockey is such a fast sport I didn't even know that McDonagh was on the ice. I was already engaged in hitting him but he turned at the last second.

Frankly, I have no problem with what Patches did. At one time I did, but not anymore. After the Chara hit, the league let it be known that he's got to look out for himself, so he is.

McD was running around. He hit Patches with a hit he didn't like and Patches responded in kind. He was just doing what the NHL told him he needed to do.

If they actually suspend him, it will be the ultimate hypocrisy, but so be it. Patches was looking out for himself and if he continues to do that he'll have a long career.

really unfortunate for McD and i don't relish the fact that he got injured.

if you watch the play develop, you see McD make a fake swing at the puck, as if he'll wrap it around the the right side and sees pacs approaching. however, instead, he goes to his backhand to move the puck up against traffic. he left himself vulnerable.

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered.

And just to remind everyone about last year and Shannajoke
Malone was head hunting all game and he doesn't get suspended for an elbow to the head. This is what Cooke started getting suspended for but Malone was let free. Then Max's hit on Letang which was similar got suspended for it but Max wasn't even raging like Malone had been at the time.

That's the problem.....Habs will get suspended while the rest of the league won't.

What sucks most about this is that if Pacioretty gets suspended, he becomes a legitimate repeat offender for the duration of his career, and I'm sure at some point he'll get a long suspension for something that should never have even gotten a fine.

@maliki2,
Give me a break... first class whining.
Some non-habs players get suspended even without a call on the play.

As far as the league being rigged, how about that Biron start?
We're now hearing of rigged tennis matches. NHL could be next...
