I don't think there's much of a chance that the Oilers turn out like the Isles, but I think this has more to do with luck than any talent for surgically tanking. They beat the odds to select Yakupov instead of Murray. They won the previous lotteries for Hall and RNH with the odds slightly in their favour. I don't see the multi-year Khabibulin and Whitney signings/acquisitions as the moves of a team purposefully tanking, more the inept moves of a team trying to win.
They'll still have Boston ahead of us because of their games in hand.
Plus NJ and Pittsburgh play today and have a chance to overtake us. If all 3 of those teams lost it would be huge for us!
I can't see Boston losing to Florida. I expect they will close the gap today.
Toronto has gone 7-3 over their last 10 games yet are still only 4 points up on 9th place NYR, who have 2 games in hand. Carolina is 5 pts back but has 3 games in hand. It's going to be a tight race to the end.
Habs need to continue to put up points and create some distance. Sens and Leafs games this week are definitely winnable.
