PK Inefficency is the Biggest Fallout from Parise Departure???

I personally think Zach is woefully overpaid as a top wing in the league, but I will never question his penalty killing abilities which were legendary. I am not that surprised that this team is mired in the bottom 3rd of the league trying to kill penalties.

Our PK went downhill during the playoffs while Parise was here. It just hasn't been as aggressive this year. Too much standing around

The long and short of it, Parise & Henrique on the PK was a work of art.

That being said, we're also missing Zubrus as well because Elias & Zubrus is a pretty damn money pairing as well.

with the d-pairs id like to see a little shakeup there too

greene-fayne
salvador-larsson
volchenkov-zidlicky

(personally wouldnt mind seeing harrold-zidlicky given a shot despite 2 righties, but that has absolutely no chance of happening plus volch will never sit unfortunately)

People should understand that one season of special teams is not a big enough sample to draw definitive conclusions. The Devils had a completely unsustainable PK save percentage last year, and that came crashing down in the playoffs, while we had Parise. Simply put, shots are going in this year that weren't going in last year, and our PK can do very little to prevent it.

The Devils have a good PK, and will probably improve from here on out, but don't expect top 5.

Last year was exceptional, you don't make history without a fair part of luck. Regression to the mean + a great PKer gone = welcome back to earth.

But our PK is going to get better, give it some time.

Still feel like they are letting too many passes through the high value lanes way too often.

Parise, Zubrus, and Josefson were 3 of our 4 best PK-ers last year. Only one playing right now is Josefson, and he just got recalled.

Parise and Henrique were exceptional on the PK last year and was a big reason this team was so successful killing penalties, but were I think the Devils miss Zach the most is along the boards, The way he played along the boards and battled so hard against opponents to win battles to force turnovers was just pure brillance on his part. Not only has he been doing it his whole career but even last season. Some people on here may not agree with me but in my opinion, Zach's work along the boards and willingness to battle in those dirty area's was a big reason we had the success we did in the playoffs last year.

Honestly I don't expect the Devils to use an amnesty on anyone. The last 5 buyouts we've used were on Pandolfo, Peters, Boulton, Hunter, and White. All were in the last year of their contracts, aside from Hunter, and White was the highest paid one making 3 mil per year.

When does the window to use them close? This offseason?

Parise's departure is a big blow to our PK, no doubt about that.

Parise played on one PK unit. The impact he had on the penalty kill was minimal at best. The same four defensemen are still rotating in, the same five or six other forwards that were on the record setting PK last year are as well. The loss of Zubrus has hurt our PK too. Other than that, our three main forward pairings were Parise-Henrique, Elias-Zubrus, Carter-Kovalchuk, and eventually Zajac. Every other one of those forwards are here.

There was four, five, or six other forwards rotating in on that same penalty kill unit.

The biggest impact from Parise leaving is his forechecking in the offensive zone even strength and in shootouts.

Buyouts are at the end of this year.

Redden and Gomez were allowed to be bought out so that they could play elsewhere as their teams had no interest in playing them.

Yeah I know that. Both players were amnesty'd when the lockout ended and don't count against the cap in any way. My question is when is the absolute last day you can use an amnesty buyout. I imagine you can't carry them forever if you don't use them.

Of course losing Parise was a big blow to the PK. We just can't sustain the same aggressiveness against the point men that served us so well.

I'm really starting to think that Bernier is a legit 3rd liner, unlike Gio or Carter. I don't mind at all having a 3rd line of Poni-Lotki-Bernier until Zubie comes back and then he can replace Bernier. He is an EXCELLENT 4th liner imo.
