What's the latest on McDonagh? Will he miss any time?

I'm glad, but at the same time if that hit that smashed McDonagh's face into the glass only gets a 2 minute minor as a deterrent, then the NHL still isn't doing it's job and we can clearly see why there was nothing on the Schenn/Gallagher hit.

Tortirella's latest schtick is to refuse to discuss any injuries. So no-one actually knows, same as with Nash.

Applying constitutional law to this would be problematic. You're talking about the Sixth Amendment which ensures right to trial by jury of peers. Would that mean you'd get a jury of other power forwards to make the call?

More interesting would be application of the Fifth Amendment, prohibiting self-incrimination. So if Shanny called Patches and Patches was all like, I can't say what happened because it would be incriminating so I plead the fifth.

But considering that time and again criminal law has not been applied to on-ice incidents (only time I can think of was Bertuzzi, which was clearly premeditated assault) and that professional sports leagues are provided anti-trust exemptions by Congress, you might be looking to the wrong legal codes.

Nah, I'm with you, the league has to change its onus on supplemental discipline, its current standards are doing little to deter concussions.

Good. They didn't do a hearing for McDonagh's hit on Patches. It's the same hit, but in front of the bench. They didn't do one either on Schenn. Was the hit dirty? And so was the 2 others.

Right call.

No, no. You are allowed to your own opinion.

I agree with you on the general sentiment. I'd like the NHL to be much harsher on principle with every hit that cause injuries, even those greyish like Patch on McDonagh.

HOWEVER, I am really happy with this decision. The NHL have proved to be somewhat consistent so far this year; had they punished Patch, it would have been quite the dent in that record, and inconsistency is the killer of validity.

Wouldn't have minded a 1 gamer. Good stuff. Even 2 I could have accepted. I just really didn't want him getting pegged as a repeat offender.

Who are you kidding, they announced that Girardi was fine just a bruise, but they weren't saying anything about McDo. I'll bet you anything that he'll be there for the rangers' next game.

So ****ing true. No need to hear from the witness when there's video evidence and everything is documented. Not that this whole joke of a process is anything like a court case.

The blindside KO on the head of Tarasenko by a scrub was worse than this. If that hit didn't warrant a suspension. This doesn't either... However, I want the NHL to be harsher in general to protect star players from the mounting head injuries problem.

Weird, I read that article, must've glazed over that part.

I'm glad about the no suspension, and I think it's the right call. The boarding minor was enough, even though I don't entirely agree with it either, but I can stomach that one.

As some have pointed out it would not surprise me that Torts left McDonagh in the locker room since Habs were starting to take command. He now had an excuse for his team playing lousy by fixating on the Pacioretty hit. It would not surprise me if he gets canned this upcoming week. One more Ranger loss and he's getting the boot, and about time I'm sick of his whining.

How come this fan base is ***** whipped by the NHL like this ?

Not singling you out, there's actually a million people who have said Patch should be suspended. I don't get it. Haven't you guys seen enough crap go unpunished against us already?

The fact MB even had to intervene here is a joke. This shouldn't even have gotten a hearing. Not unless Schenn gets punished for his hit on Gallagher anyway. And that's just how far back I'm willing to go, but others have already talked about past stupidity.

I think Torts is a piece of (*&%, but I doubt he'd leave a top-4 D out of the line-up just because they were down a couple of goals. He's petty, but not that stupid.

Do you think Chara should have been suspended for his hit on Patches? its not being ***** whipped, its believing that their should be more supplemental discipline in general.

More like:

Shanahan: I'm suspending him five games.

Bergevin: What about zero games? That's a nice round number? You like round numbers Brendan?

Shanahan: How many round numbers are we talking about?

Bergevin: How many round numbers would it take?

Shanahan: At least five.

Bergevin: Sure, I got your round numbers..... right here! Boom!

Shanahan: Um, those are actually numbers you put on the table.

Bergevin: That's right, five of them!

Shanahan: You know what. Forget about it. Just get the hell out of my office.

Bergevin: So no suspension right?

Shanahan: If you leave my office right the hell now.

Bergevin: Done.

Of course he should have.

But now that he wasn't, and now that Schenn wasn't... Pacioretty sure as hell shouldn't be.

I don't even care, all I want is fairness. The issue of what is and isn't suspension worthy is another matter. I just want fairness atm.

This is the exact thing that I disliked about the existence of a hearing. All it does is give Patches a reputation he doesn't deserve. After the Letang incident, and now this, the next one that he inadvertently gets himself into will likely be a suspension, and he'll be forever marked a repeat offender.

Imagine one day where Pacioretty gets suspended 20 games for an opponent tripping into him and taking an elbow to the head. I can see it snowballing into making him look worse than guys like Cooke or Avery.

Ryan McDirty is FINE.

Been pouring over news all day. Can't remeber wear I found it but seems credible.

Ryan McDough has no concussion, pretty good cut in the mouth, with some complications.

Tortorella is a bum, he was trying to embelish it, and still is by not giving a definitive verdict on his condition. He's a lier.

Tortorella: "Ok Ryan, we have to make this one look more serious"

Mcdonaugh: "but coach, I just bit my lip"

Totorella: "shhhhhh... *pulls out baseball bat* it's ok.. I'm going to hit you now k."
