If we could draft Alexander Wennberg I'd be so happy I'd run around naked. If someone offered me him or Filip Forsberg I'd go for Wennberg every day of the week.

He is one of the most mature 18 year old players I have ever seen. Fantastic awareness and balance. Terrific hands. Good two-way center/forward. Filip Forsberg has his talent, but all he does is dribble and shot by himself. He barely seems to care about his teammates.

Wennberg is miles more mature in the way he plays.

If we have a mid-pack pick, I want Josh Morrissey

So out of the defensemen that are expected to go at around the 7-15 range which one is most suited to our needs? Is it Nurse, Ristolainen, Pulock, Morrissey, or Zadorov?

IMO Pulock and Morrissey are too similar to Barrie/Elliott.

Zadorov is big and mobile but his offense leaves something to be desired. He's got a cannon of a shot though.

Nurse and Ristolainen would fit our needs better I feel. Big, mobile, 2-way guys.

If we're not taking Jones I would rather draft a forward. Far too many skilled forwards to not draft one of the ones that slip a bit and reach on a defender that may or may not make an impact on our team within 5 years.

Right now we're in 7th last I believe and with how bad the teams behind us have been that might be as low as we pick. I hope we can somehow snag Barkov in this draft though.

Could slot in at 3C right away and has the potential to make Stastny expendable.

Since the Avs suck this year, and with the O'Reilly situation I may as well follow some prospects as the Avs might end up with two picks, hopefully really high ones.

Is this draft forward or defense heavy? How does it compare to previous years? What top players might be ready to step in right away?

If we stay at 7 there are a range of players that I would like. Lindholm and Barkov are probably long shots, but no brainers if the fell. Monahan, Nurse, Ristolainen, and Erne would all be solid picks. I would also be real intrigued by Gauthier. He has great size and defensive skill already, plus he is pretty mobile for a guy that is ~6'5" 215lbs. He would be a risk (might only be a defensive specialist #3C), but I think he has a real high ceiling.

We're tied for 5th last. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where we pick.

You guys saying we're not going any lower than this are crazy imo.

Defense is absolutely pitiful and our offense isn't anything to be happy about either. I see no teams that are definitively worse than us

At this point I like Drouin more than Mac. He's soo dynamic and he's producing a lot more than Mackinnon is (hopefuly we get either)

I gotta agree. And the minor league depth is just horrible. We'll make a top 10 pick again next year and they'll rush the kid to the NHL again because whoever we pick is better than the duds we have on our team right now.

The Avs could really use a player with that kind of offensive vision, and creativity. As good as Duchene is, he doesn't see the ice particularly well. He relies heavily on his skillset. That's why he isn't the best PP player. His speed doesn't really lend itself to that.

I love Fournier's reaction after the goal. He's just blown away and keeps shaking his head, and just looking at him speechless.

Wat?

Also I think people are underestimating Pulock. Everyone who thinks that he is just an offensive player is going to be surprised when he turns into a great two way defenceman. He has all the tools to become a top pairing defenceman and he thinks the game quite well.

Also had to add that his shot makes him a huge asset. We have no one that can shoot the puck like him.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if we drafted one of Josh Morrissey or Ryan Pulock out of the WHL. Both are puck-moving D with good size and leadership.

Darnell Nurse would be another target. He's actually a very similar player to Duncan Siemens. Big, mean, lefties and amazing skaters on the blueline.

X - Johnson
Siemens-Elliott
Nurse-Barrie

Is pretty appealing if you ask me.
Are you saying that you think Nurse could play in the NHL next year?

Well Duchene isn't bad at the pp, he had 21 points 2nd on the avs in his rookie year. The avs as a whole just suck at the pp coaching and no point shot.

As dor Drouin he really reminds me of Gbaby, he's just so skilled with the puck and the hockey IQ is off the charts. Duchene+Drouin could be a lethal combination.

- It's a pretty even mix for offense/defense.

- It's being called the best draft of the past decade.

- There's a few that could potentially jump straight into the NHL including MacKinnon, Barkov, Jones, Nichushkin and maybe guys like Drouin and Monahan depending on how well they show at a camp.

No. How did you draw that conclusion. He's only in his draft year and will likely be a couple of years away, just as Duncan was when he was drafted.

You put him on the bottom pairing. Assumed that was because he wouldn't be ready to play a top pairing role.

No, he'll only be 18 years old next season. My pairing projection was more like in 2-3 seasons.

Would definitely be on board to take Pulock anywhere from pick 9-20. He's a leader and will become a great all-round D.

I just think with Johnson, Elliott, Barrie already on the right side of our blueline, we would probably look to add someone who's either more of a shutdown guy or a FW. With that being said, he fits the Avs drafting strategy to a tee. He's a character kid through and through, something that can't really be measured and something the Avs hold in high regard.
