Figured I'd start this up with spring training games beginning this weekend.
Granderson out until May with a broken arm...good old Yankees luck rearing it's head...only took a couple innings into the first spring training game of the year...sigh
between how the yankees and rangers look right now im probably gonna have to wait till september to see a team i like go anywhere and even then who knows what giants team shows up. very depressing.
After his disappointing performance last season, I'm not happy Granderson is injured. I hope he has a bounce back year once he returns. I'm not looking forward to home run or nothing from him again this year.
Sucks about Grandy, was watching. Hoch suggested giving Soriano a call, I'd like to get more of a look at Mustelier. Wouldn't surprise me if Mesa is on the roster.

I will let a Yankee fan come in and answer that better then me, maybe that one was bought.
But from what I can remember, in the 90s, the Yankees were winning with what they grew. Obviously there will be a few FA's/trades players on their roster, but it seemed the core guys really earned those rings.

That year 3 of the top 10 salaries we're Bernie, Jeter, and Pettitte.. The others were players who were traded for either before 1999 or that year. . Clemens was brought in via trade for David Wells. Brosius was really a no name before coming to the Yankees. Knoblauch? We traded eric milton and christian guzman two highly regarded prospects at the time. So its not li. We just stole guys. Tino was also traded for. Same with david cone.. the 96-00 yankees were built with our farm system and good trades.

It wasn't until 2002 or 2003 when their payroll went way above everyone else.
Pretty excited to watch the Mets to be honest. Rotation could be very good with Harvey, Niese, Marcum, a healthy Sanata, and Gee alongside of Wheeler being in the mix.
Outfield will be iffy, but they have youth in those spots. Could be promising. Love the infield though. Another yea for Tejada to grow. Keeping Wright. Murphy turned into a good 2nd baseman. Ike without health concerns coming into the season. D'arnoud looks promising. Catching will be better than previous seasons. Buck is solid as well. If the bullpen could be any good, they might have a shot. Atlanta and Washington will be very good as well. Hoping for a good developing year.

Every time the Yankees payroll discussion is brought up- whether it be from my friends who are Met fans or on an internet message board- I say the same thing and people who blindly hate the Yankees seem to not be able to understand it.
The rules of Major League Baseball do not employ a salary cap. Most sports do, baseball does not: this is their system. The Yankees are a global brand- much like the Lakers or Manchester United. Being that they are a global brand, they generate a TON of revenue. Why should they not use the revenue they generate to take advantage of baseball's FLAWED system? Because "its not fair?" Life is not fair, get over it. Your problem isn't with the Yankees, it is with the lack of salary cap. If MLB had a salary cap then the Yankees wouldn't spend the money they do- but in a system without a salary cap the big markets have the major advantage.
