That's a bingo.

IMO, the Devils game, Sabres game, Islanders game, Lightning game, Jets game are games with some signs that this team might not be as good as the standings are showing right now. Leafs and Sens blowout losses are less significant as the team was just bad from the start.

Can We Keep This Up All Season? Are We Now Serious Contenders?

As the title states, Are We? Can We? I think yes to both

I see absolutely nothing in our play to suggest we can't continue the season like this and we're playing what would translate into great playoff hockey so as long as we stay healthy we should be considered serious Contenders for #Stanley25

If they stay healthy then they look like legitimate contenders.

Do not forget 2008, the 1st team in the conference collapsed because the PP could not function without a heathy Mark streit.

Well have 3 fully running forward and defence lines so even an injury of two depending shouldn't slow us down to much

What is the real deal with that we have enough CENTERS worth their salt to be distributed over 3 or four lines.

Too early to say.

It's a strike season and we're seeing the typical weird results. The East also seems to be falling apart. Price is invincible and everything is going right. So maybe.

It is too early for me to say though. Ask the question again after we lose two in a row.

The team is definitely overachieving, which is a good thing!

Contenders? I would say no. Any potential for post season action should be a good learning experience, though. Its a different game and requires a different mentality.

There are still a few too many holes to fill to call this team a contender.... I'm just enjoying the ride this year, and looking forward to seeing where it takes us.

Its always fun to watch a team that is exceeding expectations. Enjoy it while it lasts, because if this team slips comfortably into the playoffs, then next year will have an entirely different set of expectations that may not be as fun to follow, depending on how the team responds to the new pressures.

Well just bounced back from 3 loses in a row and a game where we blew 2 two goal leads. Seems pretty legit to me.

How convenient... if it happens, it's obvious we're not contender and if it does not happen, it's obvious we're contenders...

Just kidding, we all know habs won't lose two in a row!

Given the parity in the league and the fact it's a half season, the difference between 1st and 8th may be a single digit points difference or close to it. That being said, yes. We are definitely contenders. Not sure we'll finish 1st but we will be in the playoffs and half a chance to make some noise. Never know what happens or who'll you'll play.

I'll just give you the /thread statement here:

Like some other teams in the east we have problems... But like some other team in the east we have a franchise player. (We only have one so far, sadly.)

I'll give you this cute sentence though.

We are underdogs, Price is the contender.

Are Ottawa and Toronto going to finish ahead of the Rangers and Flyers?

Even in a shortened season it's early.

Maybe we are contenders. Right now I'd say no. But the East is wide open this year. Nobody in the conference is playing better than us except maybe Boston.

We are not contenders, but we are close roster-wise. We are close to being able to field 3 D pairs that are worth a damn and three lines that can score. We have center depth, which is usually plentiful in Cup-winning teams. If Gionta can get his head out of his butt, Markov steps up his play, and we start doing well on faceoffs, we could get very far.

Oh and get our PP working again. (I guess this goes with Markov though.)

And the discipline.

Playoffs are about matchups and health. We get those and we can make some noise.

But yes... let's revisit this question in one week after a few pivotal games.

Maybe. the East has rolled over and died so far.

I don't think we're the real deal but we've got Price so maybe this will be our 1986.

The West isnt all that powerful either. You have Chicago, Anaheim and the perennial bridesmaid Vancouver. The rest are no better than what we have in the East.

Anything can happen this season.

This should be an interesting week for the Habs based upon their schedule.

Didn't you notice (or your goalposts tell you) that just about every team in the East currently ranks below the Habs, so which teams with better records haven't they met? Did you expect the Habs to handle the Rangers so easily (twice)? Or win at home against their nemesis, Brodeur? Or dispose of the Flyers? Or stiff the big guns of the Lightning?

I don't get the "all of the above" option which was chosen by so many. It is a logical impossibility. You can't be the real deal and above your head and benefitting from an easy schedule all at the same time... "Which way did he go? Right or left?"

"Yes"
