Will Habs New System Hold Up In Playoffs?

Like the title says. I think our new and improved style of forchecking and grittier play will translate really well once the playoffs start. What does everyone else think?

The style is too intense. They gonna came in the playoff completely burn out.

MTL are out in 4, by boston.

The intensity is the best part. We're rolling 4lines every night so we will not be as burnt out as you think. No one is being overplayed

Still think we need more size and grit up front to win a cup.

Again I think we need help on the back end from a big defenseman.

A lot depends on the officiating. If the refs swallow the whistles, we could be in trouble.

A lot depends on the opponent. Habs match up well against some, not so well against others.

Can the rookies keep up the high level of play under playoff pressure.

Time will tell.

"Too intense" in a way that's different from any other team? We're playing more like the harder-edged teams we've aspired to be. It might be an unusually new style for us, but it's nothing new for most successful teams who succeed in the playoffs. Injuries might happen, they might not, but it won't be because we play an especially vulnerable style.

I think we need the same thing, but on defense.

Let's make the POs first. We're only 8pts out, and we're entering a tougher stretch with 11games of 16 on the road until end of March. Seven games in that span will be within our own division, teams we struggled against.
So, let's wait before discussing how great we think we'll be in the POs.

We need Gionta to no longer be a black hole of production.
We need Markov to fix his **** up. Don't if he needs more rest, less icetime, but we will not win with him playing at the level he is playing at.
We need a solid Dman in the mold of Scuderi.

We need a faceoff specialist worth a damn.

Otherwise, we are legit contenders. And don't think I'm in fanboy mode. I hated every almost moment of the Martin era because I knew that we didn't have enough and expected poor results, and it was true.

They play a tight forchecking game and seem adept at scouting other teams, should be fine.

I can't think of another team deep enough to outlast us in a 7 game series with us rolling all lines. They can contain one or two of them but not all we will eventually pull ahead I believe

Right. Cause the last thing you want in the payoffs is intensity.

Did you actually think about it before writing it?

I'm sorry they didn't impress you as much as the three lines I was responding to.

I will endeavor to please you more, pig.

I think he was referring to '4 lines' in the hockey sense.

What we have going for us this year will help us be much better in the playoffs.

1)New aggressive coaching: We can take the game to the opponent and force our style. No JM rope a dopes.

2)We have a very balanced, deep forward group that varies in size, style and role. This should let us redesign our lines as needed against different opponents.

3)Price is playing at expectations. This guy is only getting better and you can see how focused he is on improving.

4)Subban IMO has taken another huge jump in development. Same with Diaz and Emelin.

5)Our bottom 6 is very solid physically and can play hockey. We can roll 4 lines.

What isn't going for us:
1)Undersized D: We simply need to get bigger and meaner on the back end. That will be fixed in time, our hands are tied this year, so we might as well not bother complaining.

2)Special teams need to click: We must get better at at least the PK, due to our new found undisciplined nature.

3)Vets Struggling: Cole and Gionta need to get going for them to make a difference, and if they don't, they're just gonna be taking up icetime from those who do step up.

I personally think that a passive system is less effective than a puck pursuit system that requires forechecking when the opportunity arises. By putting the pressure on the opposing team and controlling the puck it forces them to chase and wears them down. If we can manage to figure out how to hold a lead, this system can be a very good one in the playoff. Price will have to adapt his style to be good when facing less shots, which can be hard to do as you never really get into the game.

Not impossible I over reacted. If so, sorry.

Nevertheless, my response to someone suggesting intensity is somehow self-defeating in the playoffs is with a head shake.

I'd ask you to explain your comment then. Are all 4 lines not playing intensely? Should they be?

Judging by the Habs record, I'd say the evidence is profoundly obvious. This team is playing with focus, with intensity and with grit.

There are growing pains, but compared to the CF last season, the playoffs are within reach. Is the team likely to win a cup? Nope. Can they make some noise? Yes.

Edit: Saw your reply above. Sorry I misunderstood.
