I thought it would be interesting to talk about each team's best and worst trades of all time. I'm a Flames fan so I'll do Calgary.
BEST
I debated about this, but ultimately my #1 choice is:
Acquiring Miikka Kiprusoff from the San Jose Sharks for a 2nd round pick. Kiprusoff has broken all goaltending records in franchise history and currently sits one win shy of 300 as a Flame.
Runner up: The Jarome Iginla for Joe Nieuwendyk trade. Even though Iginla will by far be regarded as the BEST player to ever don the 'Flaming C', it did cost us our franchise center who would end up being a future Conn Smythe Trophy winner and Hall Of Famer.
WORST
The Doug Gilmour to Toronto trade. The Flames ultimately got nothing to show for Gilmour, who would turn the floundering Leafs franchise around and end up being a future Hall Of Famer himself.
Runner up: My 2nd choice is Brett Hull to St. Louis. Even though the return would ultimately help net the Flames their only Championship in franchise history (1989), I don't think Flames management would have included Hull in the deal had they known he'd end up scoring over 700 goals in the NHL.
What are your franchise's best and worst trades of all time?
Shoot..

Best: I would say Kipprusoff for a 2nd rnd pick but that pick ended up to be Vlasic but still Kipprusoff has been one of the reasons why we aren't a bottom feeder.
Worst: I say the Phaneuf trade.. We got shafted... That is all.
Best Trade: John Cullen, Zarley Zalapski and Jeff Parker to the Hartford Whalers for Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson and Grant Jennings
Worst Trade: Jaromir Jagr and Frantisek Kucera to the Washington Capitals for Kris Beech, Michal Sivek and Ross Lupaschuk
Beech was way too slow to play in the NHL. Sivek was a bottom 6 at best. Lupaschuk looked like he never played Dee in his life. They should have tryed to move him to wing.
One of my favorite trades was getting 4th from Boston for Ian Moran. Just getting rid of him made the Pens so much better.
Best: Carter for Voracek, 7th overall (couturier), 3rd(nick cousins).
Richie for Schenn Simmonds and a 3rd(traded for Nick Grossmann)
Your franchise's best trades lead to a Cup for another team? Interesting.
I mean maybe if those core guys go on to win a couple championships with Philly, then we'll have a more even Iginla/Nieuwendyk trade, but for the moment...

I think you guys lost out letting those two go.
LOL!!!!! Wow!!!! I never thought of it that way!!!
No.. this is a beaten argument. Any smart flyer fan will do those trades every time. We're clearly a better team with the pieces we received. Just because you guys won the cup, which we didn't even trade you Carter, doesn't mean it's a loss for us. I'm ecstatic about Schenn as you can tell, Simmonds has outscored Richie since the trade (that's not the whole picture obviously), add in Grossmann is our best defensive defensemen and you can see why I'm happy with this deal.
The Carter and Columbus I don't think I need to explain.... Whether we kept Richie and Carter or not it still has no impact on our defensive needs.
We traded:
Richards, Carter and some no name prospect in the Richards trade
for
Voracek, Schenn, Simmonds, 1st(Couturier), 3rd(Nick Cousins, leading OHL scorer), another 3rd that we traded to get Nick Grossmann. Yeah..we really messed up . That's GREAT value..
Best trade: stajan, hagman, white and mayers for phaneuf, aulie and sjostom.
Runner-up: Beauch for lupul and gardiner
Worst trade: seguin, knight, and hamilton for Kessel
Runner-up: Rask for raycroft
So in a "best of all time" thread, in regards to an O6 team that has been around for like 80 years, your best and worst and both runners up are trades that took place within the past 5 years or so? Jesus, this place needs to stop letting teenagers post.
BEST: Patrick Roy and Mike Keane for Jocelyn Thibault, Martin Rucinsky, and Andrei Kovalenko
WORST: Theoren Fleury for Robyn Regehr, Wade Belak, and Rene Corbet.
What's even more painful is the fact that Lacroix allowed Calgary to choose between two then-prospects: Regehr or Martin Skoula. If they had chosen Skoula the Avs' fortunes would've been SO very different this past decade.
We will see what happens with the O'Reilly trade...but I'm guessing that one will be a loss no matter what.
Voracek, Schenn, Simmonds, 1st(Couturier), 3rd(Nick Cousins, leading OHL scorer), another 3rd that we traded to get Nick Grossmann. Yeah..we really messed up . That's GREAT value..
All these magic beans need to win something before you get to run your mouth.
You know why Boston fans get to walk around like king **** after the Kessel trade? Because they won. Without him. And the kid they got in return helped them win.
If that happens, you'll have a point. Until then, I'd revise your best trade list, since the best moves your franchise has EVER MADE are most memorable for propelling another team to greatness.
