Not bad, still think Philipp Grubauer might end up being the best of the group but we shall see.

Can someone explain to me why this is such a "great" deal? Holtby is nothing special. Seems like an average deal for an average player.

You're not going to get a better goalie than Holtby for $1.8M on the open market. Like this deal.

Good signing. Even if he ends up backing up in Washington over the next two years thats a price you could live with.

Nothing like rewarding a guy who has been bad most of the year with a 2 year extension and raise...hopefiully the recent play is more indicitive of what we'll get going forward.

Varlamov was the best of the group

Then Neuvirth was the best

Then Holtby was the best

I don't see the comparision. Holtby was going to be an RFA, Fasth was going to be a UFA. And while Holtby has left more of a mark in last year's playoffs than Fasth had the opportunity to, I don't think he's a better goalie just yet. Which is entirely fine at his age.

It's a decent deal, and could obviously look very good in the 2nd year, especially, but personally, I see it as a pretty fair / common deal.

I guess each of those are were your opinions but I'm certainly entitled to my own. I've seen him play in person several times so it wasn't a baseless comment. Thanks.

Not sure those are a connected factor. Neuvirth won't get much more than he's making. If he does want more, they can deal him.

They've also got a kid or two in the minors they like. But it is Holtby's job now I imagine.
