I'm pretty sure I remember this cause of the happy birthday threads during the playoffs last year in the first round. Though they may be a day apart.
They do share the same birthday, but ironically, there is another pair of Devils as well.

Not who I was thinking of.

I'm impatient. I looked it up.

They stand in nearly the exact same location on their respective PP units.

Half the way there.

They are exactly one year apart.

I think you just proved my point....Crap lines and young not ready players can win for while but when you play over your head your gonna come back to the pack,

No they don't.

Bernier (since someone said it) is always on the half boards where Kovalchuk should be.

Everytime I see him, he's right in front of the goalie.

Well lately he hasn't.

They really need to put Loktionov there though.

I'd like to see a Loktionov-Henrique-Butler PP unit.

If Zajac starts putting up some points, and Henrique gets back on track we'll be better. Plus we have a better first line now than the one with Stefan frickin Matteau.

Oh and when this team figures out what a penalty kill means again. And when they start putting in better efforts to play the Jets, Capitals, Hurricanes, Isles, and cream of the crap of the league.

Can't find the original post, but the only reason we won 5 in a row is because we were playing a really structured defensive game and the PK was playing extremely well.

As the PK has faltered (and our team defense) so has the team.

I don't buy the Zajac/Kovy not putting up points excuse. They aren't going to score every night, however, the defense and penalty kill can't be as atrocious as it has been recently and expect to win games. We started off last night strong but then we just fell apart in the D zone, way too many chances for the Jets on defensive breakdowns.

The defensive breakdowns were because there seemed to be no chemistry between the defense and the forwards and similarly between the forwards. Last year, if a D was overaggressive, a forward would be right there to back him up, but this year that forward is nowhere to be found. Similarly, if a forward is overaggressive, there would be a forward to back him up in the slot. Now it seems like the defenseman are attacking and the forwards aren't covering their man. The Devils like to outnumber people in the defensive zone, but you can't do that if the wingers and forwards don't cover for you.

I think my point has been proven that this team does not play a complete effort against the bottom feeders. How many blowouts have we had against Boston, Pittsburgh, and divisional teams not named the Islanders? One against Pittsburgh.

Look at how we came out against the Flyers after going down 3-1 to them. Then look at how we came out against the POS Jets last night after going down. And the game against the Caps.

Good goaltending, and PKing was helping keep the puck out of our net for a while. Now they we've lost that look what's happened?

Hate to say it, but we are feeling the effects of traitorboy.

No matter how one plays with the line combinations (and Deboer is trying any and everything at this point, like Lemaire's bingo ball cage never left) we are one top 6 winger short of a complete team.

And with Zubie out, we can't even fake it.

I am extremely happy Lou made the move for Lokti, with Yayo sharting the bed, and getting Poni back in the fold was also huge. That solves our third line problems, at least, so that any line that contains Baby Gionta can rightly be called what it is --- a fourth line.

And with Elias being an ageless wonder, and Clarky actually becoming a bonafide scoring threat (not a fluke), we have the pieces for one legit top line.

Zajac, as our top line center, belongs between those two guys. It really helps with their cycling the puck. And Elias has the tools and the mindset to allow Zajac to find his offense and actually use his above average shot (as opposed to always deferring to Kovy).

Rico will be fine, eventually, as Kovy's center, as both play an opportunistic game with favorable skillsets over most other second liners. (Kovy being "all world" in the tool box, but a hard piece to integrate into a collective unit.)

But among the rest of the detritus on the roster, the closest we got to another top six forward to join those guys is fake #9, Bobby Butler, who would struggle to stay on most teams in any capacity.

At least when we finally get Zubie back we can plug him there and he can make room for those other two to dangle. (Although he would be ideal on a third line, and not in the top 6.)

But right now it is Butler or Matteau or worse. A "lose/lose/really lose" scenario.

Henrique has never been nearly as good on wing, and Lokti simply cannot play wing, at all. So it seems pretty clear they both need to settle in at center.

So I'm afraid we are really going to have to win with this...

Elias - Zajac - Clarkson
Butler - Henrique - Kovalchuk
Ponikarovsky - Loktionov - Bernier
Carter - Gionta - Barch/Matteau

Good luck with that.

Indeed.

If we ever get a totally healthy roster, and that is difficult in this league, even at total 100% we lack one top 6 winger.

(But lines 2-4 above are downright awesome.)

Here you go.

Btw. Clarkson`s situation kind of reminds me Glencross` in Calgary. Clarkson does more though.

Weiss going straight to the top line would be interesting, but I do support bringing him in.
