Same could be said about Semin. Cane fans are falling all over themselves about Semin, as they should, but us Caps fans have watched 400+ games of Semin and he is what he is. Unbelievable talent who plays when he wants. Semin may light the world up in a strike shortened season, but all signs point to him returning to his 400+ game self of playing like a God to disappearing for 10 game stretches. Whoever signs Semin will find that out soon enough.
Thats why I don't have a problem with Brouwers comments as a Caps fan. Players like Brouwer see the talent Semin has and call him out for wasting it. It is justified.
And to the Canes fans brushing off Brouwers comments because the Caps are in last place, 6 points seperates the Canes and Caps. Caps win tomorrow then its down to 4. Still plenty of season left to make that up, but yeah the Canes are way up there in 1st place.
Brouwer- 148 points in 337 career games (0.44 ppg)
Semin- 422 points in 486 career games (0.87 ppg)
Semin is the only 13th overall pick who is a "major disappointment" for not putting up consistent 90 point seasons.
better than the repeatable crap that is drilled into most pro-athletes to say these days.
who now is going to tune into the game and hope for a bit of fireworks?
people need to realise that hockey players are allowed to have opinions just like we all do on this board and the world is a better place for people actually speaking their mind than just toeing the line.
To be fair to Brouwer, I think that Semin is a man on a mission to prove the naysayers wrong after he was given his walking papers by the Caps. Brouwer wouldn't want to meet Semin 2.0; that may have been the kick Semin needed. Brouwer forgets, however, that Semin's plus-minus since the start of the 2008-09 is among the top 10 for all skaters; he isn't a defensive liability as he was earlier in his career.
Didn't he say something about another teammate too before the season ? And also neuivirth said holtby is his weakest competition so far lol what a joke the washingtons pr is
Semin has more class than this fool will ever have and never spoke poorly about anyone while being trashed repeatedly. I suppose Brouwer is looking for brownie points from the Caps organization. If it's true that Ovy and Semin are having dinner together, Ovy should call Brouwer on that.
Every time I read someone ripping Semin, I always wait for it, and without fail, it comes... "As a Caps fan..."
The guy was wrongfully vilified by that organization, and its only getting worse. Whats even more hilarious is the need to continue piling on because the team Semin went to is sitting in 1st place in the division while the Caps, you know, the team Semin was supposedly holding down oh so much, is mired in last place in the conference. They just can't stand the fact they were wrong and that Semin was actually good.
But please... continue with the completely racist "he's just a lazy Russian" slams against him. Please, continue to rail on him without being able to back it up, even though we're halfway through the season and he's still consistently coming up big for the Canes, including a goal and 2 primary assists in last night's game. Don't worry, we're all still waiting for that "inevitable time he vanishes" that you claim he is so destined to go through. You know, because your savior, Alex Ovechkin, has not ever done anything like that before. Certainly not the first third of this current season....
Yes because your 17 games of viewing Semin as a Cane trumps Caps fans 520 games.

Guys who don't give a crap are not going to say much. It has little to do with being classy. Just show up and get paid.
I think it is hilarious how everyone always complains on this board that hockey players never say what is really on their minds, that they just feed us the same od lame-ass cliche comments.
Now finally a guy says something we basically all knew already, and he is a "fool".
Maybe saying it to the media isn't the best thing in the world, but everybody knew this team needed a heart transplant.
I see the culture changing on this team. I am not a Caps fan, but I see the care coming back when i watch this team. This is just another step in making each other accountable.
I like it. It'll make for a better team in the long run. Just watch.
Giroux did the same thing the other night with the Flyers (current players yet). That a gutsy, leadership move. Love it.
A friend of mine played with Semin in Washington and, in his words, Semin "just doesn't give a s**t". So, obviously Brouwer isn't the only one with this opinion.
That said, Brouwer should keep this out of the spotlight. It's unprofessional.
What a moron. What's ironic is that you can tell that both teams enjoys they new acquisition... and they're actually doing well.
I can't wait until Semin single handedly DESTROYS the caps and light them up for 3 goals and 2 assists. We'll have to wait until next year to watch Boudreau's team murder the Caps.
I don't doubt there were more than a few players that disliked the effort that Semin put forth in Washington (in fact, I know of at least 3), but the difference is, they kept their mouth shut.
You can have a problem with a teammate/former teammate, but bringing it to the media is ridiculous.
Haters hate and the sheeple follow. Caps organization is utterly disfunctional and has been for a long time. Their board has been complaining about it and the fans are fed up. Yeah, looks like Semin was the problem. Only problem was that he should have gotten out of there at least two years ago. Ovechkin will be next. Brouwer is nothing but a grinding bum. Brains? Well, he can tie his skates. A true fan would not condone this type of behavior from a player. Says alot.
One thing that always amazes me is how incredibly thin-skinned HF posters are and how emotional they get. What Brouwer said was really not that big of a deal. I bet this stuff bothers some of you more than it bothers Semin himself. I love Alexander Semin and would like to have him back but Brouwer has been decent enough and he's playing well this year in Oates's system.
Ovechkin leads the team on the ice but guys like Brouwer and Laich are the ones who are going to hold people accountable. Brouwer is telling it like it is - hardly anyone has even bothered to dispute his comments. Straight talk is what the Caps need IMO.
Semin had more goals alone in 2008 (35) than Brouwer has ever had points in his career. I wouldn't be questioning someones talent when Brouwer is as useless as they come. He was always a loud mouth in Chicago, seems like nothing has changed.

I just plain disagree with this. What you are suggesting helps enable the slacking. I prefer players to expect a total effort from one another and to get angry when that doesn't happen. That's what professionals do.

To me, it doesn't matter if what he said is true at all. It is unprofessional as well, but it's not even that for me.
Is that he makes himself look like a big idiot and thus a distraction by saying the Caps are doing well without him. Maybe practice your "trash talk" in the mirror first next time.
