One of the flaws on this team. Everyone talks of the offensive talent and I agree but no real snipers. Sharp is "supposed" to be a sniper but not on a grand stage league wide. Kane, Toews and Hossa would all rather pass first. Also, lack of point shot hurts PP as much as the poor coaching.
The goal total comes from great puck control, skill and an abundance of scoring chances.
Two things that are prevalent when watching the hawks offense; when they are in tight they can't elevate and when out further they often miss the net.
Because we can never ****ing elevate the puck and when we do it goes over the net. That is why we made Mike Smith look like Jesus Christ...get a zillion scoring chances and shoot it into his pads. And the goals we actually did get were mostly softies by Smith.
The Hawks try to shoot it through the goalie instead of actually trying to snipe it. Unfortunately for them it isn't the 80s and goalies are bigger than ever and pads are bigger as well. Not to mention with the butterfly style goalies taking away the bottom portion of the net...yet we always try to shoot it through the goalie instead of elevating it. We would be #1 in goals for every year IMO if we just could elevate it. Even our skill guys like Toews and Hossa...they are the most guilty of this. Toews refuses to go anywhere but 5 hole and Hossa's stick is so long he doesn't attempt a high rising wrist shot, instead takes a half slapper into the goalie to hopefully go through him or try to go five hole. Kane is the only star who attempts to go high glove and his shot isn't very accurate, especially last season. Sharp doesn't even know where the puck is going I feel like most the time...but that makes him an effective goal scorer when he is hot and on.
